0. What the post actually is

A wordless repost of a screenshot: a tweet from Sen. Mike Lee (@BasedMikeLee) asserting that "Trump is saving $300 million on the Reflecting Pool renovation" and that "naturally, leftists are freaking out over it." The subject added nothing. The analyzable act is selection and amplification, not composition.

Two structural features matter more than the content:

1. The praise is surrogate. A sitting U.S. senator supplies the flattering proposition; the subject merely places it in front of his audience. This is a laundering operation — the grandiose claim ("saving $300 million") arrives with third-party authorship and institutional credentialing (verified account, senator), which insulates the subject from having authored a boast while still delivering it to his followers.
2. The aggression is also surrogate. The second sentence of the screenshot — "leftists are freaking out" — does the devaluation work. The subject is not on record mocking anyone; he simply chose an artifact that does the mocking. This is a well-established pattern in his media-only posting: the outsourced insult carries plausible deniability that a signed post would not.

Note that the caption's dollar figure is the senator's assertion, not the subject's, and is treated accordingly (no fact-check entries are attributed to him here). It is worth observing in prose, however, that the framing does substantial rhetorical work: it recasts a discretionary aesthetic construction project on federal grounds as an act of fiscal stewardship, and recasts objection to it as irrational emotional dysregulation ("freaking out") rather than as a substantive dispute about the National Mall.
