A/I is a general-purpose provider hosting, by the State Department's own concession, roughly 16,000 mailboxes, 1,500 websites, 5,500 mailing lists, and 10,000 blogs. It maintains and enforces an explicit terms-of-service prohibition on "publishing of others' personal information, whenever not already publicly available," and in October 2023 sent a takedown complaint to a noblogs user over exactly that. EFF's Jillian York called designating an "alternative host... simply for providing a service that a lot of people want" a scary precedent, and MEP Brando Benifei objected that the action targets an intermediary "associating it without evidence with possible illicit uses by third parties."
One related detail worth noting: Fox's follow-up headline claiming Rose City Antifa's site went dark is also incorrect. As of 2026-08-28, rosecityantifa.org returns HTTP 200 and serves normal content, as does rosecitycounterinfo.noblogs.org and noblogs.org. What actually went offline is autistici.org, which whois shows under registry-applied serverHold, serverUpdateProhibited, and serverTransferProhibited, resolving NXDOMAIN.
Why mostly false rather than false. A real Portland antifa-affiliated project did use A/I tools to publish ICE personnel targeting information and to call for laser attacks on federal aircraft, so the claim is not fabricated wholesale. But the organization named did not do it, has no A/I nexus, and denied it; the government's own earlier primary-source releases named the correct different group; and the specific violence-organizing claim is contradicted by chronology and by a sworn federal affidavit. |
