Post from Truth Social

Today, we honor the 13 brave American HEROES who were tragically killed five years ago by evil Jihadi terrorists in Kabul, Afghanistan. This catastrophe was a result of Sleepy Joe Biden’s totally botched Withdrawal from the Country, which left our wonderful Servicemen and women defenseless, and allowed the Taliban to free thousands of bloodthirsty terrorists and criminals held at Bagram Prison. This was one of the greatest atrocities in the History of our Nation, and we can never forget that it was the result of the sheer incompetence of Joe Biden and the Democrats who were in charge.

During my 2024 Campaign, I met with the Abbey Gate Gold Star Families, wonderful people and Great Patriots, who were totally ignored and disrespected by the Democrat Party. I promised them we would deliver Justice when I returned to the White House — and we have! We quickly apprehended the evil mastermind responsible for the deaths of our Service members, and it has been one of my Greatest Honors as Commander in Chief. May God Bless America, and may God Bless the Abbey Gate Gold Star Families. You will NEVER be forgotten! President DONALD J. TRUMP

A fifth-anniversary Abbey Gate memorial statement whose structure is the finding: it opens on "the 13 brave American HEROES" and closes on "one of my Greatest Honors as Commander in Chief," signed with a formal self-signature. Grief functions as the entry point; personal credit is the destination. This appropriation of collective mourning as an achievement record is a recurring signature in the subject's commemorative output. The narrative follows the subject's dominant template — contamination (predecessor's catastrophe) resolved by redemption (his return, his delivered justice). Agency motives dominate; the communal warmth directed at Gold Star families is real in register but instrumentalized, the families serving primarily as witnesses to an adversary's failure and the subject's fidelity. Defenses are devaluation ("Sleepy Joe," "sheer incompetence"), splitting into absolute moral poles, and rationalization via a single-cause account that omits the Doha Agreement framework set under his own prior administration. Narcissistic state is stably grandiose with no vulnerable oscillation; paranoid and sadistic features are low. Authorship is mixed (0.45) — business-hours timing and clean orthography against unmistakably personal content markers, most consistent with dictation plus staff correction. Notably, danger indicators are absent: no eliminationist language, no domestic target, no mobilization call. Contextually the post may serve supply repair amid visible base fracture, though the calendar occasion alone suffices as explanation. Cognitive markers are absent but uninformative, as editing masks production-level signals.

Fact Checks (5)
"Thirteen American service members were killed five years ago at Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan."
True

The August 26, 2021 suicide bombing at Abbey Gate outside Hamid Karzai International Airport killed 13 U.S. service members (11 Marines, one Army soldier, one Navy corpsman) along with roughly 170 Afghan civilians. The post's date of August 26, 2026 is exactly five years later. The attack was claimed by ISIS-K.

"The Biden withdrawal 'allowed the Taliban to free thousands of bloodthirsty terrorists and criminals held at Bagram Prison.'"
Mostly True

When the Taliban seized Bagram Airfield in mid-August 2021, they released the population of the adjacent Parwan detention facility, widely reported as roughly 5,000 prisoners including Taliban and ISIS-K members. Reporting indicates the Abbey Gate bomber, Abdul Rahman al-Logari, was among those freed. The factual core is accurate; the framing that this was a discrete consequence of the withdrawal decision alone omits that the withdrawal timeline was set by the February 2020 Doha Agreement negotiated under the subject's prior administration.

"'We quickly apprehended the evil mastermind responsible for the deaths of our Service members.'"
Half True

An apprehension did occur: Mohammad Sharifullah, an ISIS-K operative, was taken into custody in Pakistan and rendered to U.S. custody in early 2025, and the subject announced it in his March 2025 address to Congress. Two qualifications: the 'mastermind' characterization overstates the charged role, which involved reconnaissance and facilitation of the attack rather than sole planning authority; and 'we quickly apprehended' consolidates credit for an operation resting on multi-year intelligence work and on Pakistani cooperation, spanning both administrations. The apprehension is real; the exclusive personal attribution is not supported.

"Abbey Gate Gold Star families were 'totally ignored and disrespected by the Democrat Party.'"
Half True

Several Abbey Gate families have publicly stated they felt disrespected by the prior administration, citing the dignified-transfer ceremony at Dover and subsequent communication failures; those grievances are genuine and documented in congressional testimony. However, 'totally ignored' is falsified by the record — President Biden attended the Dover transfer and met with families, and the Defense Department conducted and later reopened its investigation with family participation. The claim mixes a real grievance with a categorical overstatement.

"The Abbey Gate bombing was 'one of the greatest atrocities in the History of our Nation.'"
Mostly False

Assessed as a comparative historical ranking rather than as sentiment. By any conventional measure — casualties, scale, or historical consequence — a 13-fatality attack does not rank among the greatest atrocities in U.S. history, a set that includes events with casualty counts orders of magnitude higher. The statement functions as grief-honoring hyperbole rather than a defensible historical claim; the loss itself is unquestionably grave.
