Post from Truth Social

I am working very hard with our Great Speaker, Mike Johnson, along with Chairman Jim Jordan and Chairman Rick Crawford, to get a clean extension of FISA 702 through the House of Representatives this week. I am asking Republicans to UNIFY, and vote together on the test vote to bring a clean Bill to the floor. We need to stick together when this Bill comes before the House Rules Committee today to keep it CLEAN!

When the Dirty Cop, James Comey, the failed Head of the FBI went after me, he was using FISA Title I, the Domestic Collection, not FISA 702, the Foreign Collection, which needs to be extended today. While parts of FISA were illegally and unfortunately used against me in the Democrats’ disgraceful Witch Hunt and Attack in the RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA Hoax, and perhaps would be used against me in the future, I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country! Our Military Patriots desperately need FISA 702, and it is one of the reasons we have had such tremendous SUCCESS on the battlefield. I have spoken with many in our Military who say FISA is necessary in order to protect our Troops overseas, as well as our people here at home, from the threat of Foreign Terror Attacks. It has already prevented MANY such Attacks, and it is very important that it remain in full force and effect. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

This FISA 702 reauthorization appeal is psychologically notable for its real-time management of narcissistic cognitive dissonance. Trump publicly acknowledges that FISA — the surveillance framework he has attacked across thousands of posts — was weaponized against him, then reframes his support for its reauthorization as extraordinary self-sacrifice. The phrase "I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen" converts a routine legislative position into a vehicle for narcissistic supply, positioning Trump as a martyr-king whose magnanimity the nation depends upon. The post deploys splitting as its organizing principle: FISA 702 is "clean" (foreign, military, good) while FISA Title I is "dirty" (domestic, Comey, Democratic abuse). This binary framework resolves an otherwise untenable contradiction — promoting the same surveillance authority that harmed him — by cleaving the tool into morally absolute halves. Reaction formation is prominent: deep resentment toward FISA bleeds through ("illegally used," "perhaps would be used against me in the future") but is officially overridden by patriotic duty. The redemption narrative structure (contamination → sacrifice → national good) is rare for Trump, who more typically maintains pure victimhood. Combined with the same day's Hormuz triumphalism and 39% approval context, this suggests a coordinated wartime-leader messaging strategy under political pressure. Likely aide-structured with Trump's direct input on the grievance and self-sacrifice passages.

"When Comey went after me, he was using FISA Title I, the Domestic Collection, not FISA 702, the Foreign Collection"
Mostly True

The FBI obtained FISA Title I warrants against Carter Page as part of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, confirmed by the DOJ Inspector General's December 2019 report. Section 702 was not the primary instrument used against the Trump campaign. The distinction between Title I (individualized warrants for domestic surveillance) and Section 702 (programmatic collection targeting foreign persons) is accurately drawn. Rated 'mostly true' rather than 'true' because the framing of Comey personally 'going after' Trump oversimplifies the institutional chain of decision-making.

"FISA was illegally used against me"
Half True

The Horowitz report found 17 significant errors and omissions in the FISA applications against Carter Page, and the FISA court subsequently found at least two of the four applications invalid due to insufficient probable cause. Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty to altering a document used in a FISA renewal application. However, the Inspector General did not conclude the investigation was initiated illegally or for political reasons, and 'illegally' overstates the formal findings. 'Improperly' or 'with significant procedural failures' would be more precise characterizations.

"FISA 702 has already prevented MANY foreign terror attacks"
Mostly True

Senior intelligence community officials, including successive NSA and FBI directors, have testified before Congress that Section 702 collection has been instrumental in disrupting terrorist plots and protecting national security. The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB) has generally affirmed the program's counterterrorism value while recommending reforms. Specific prevented attacks are largely classified, making independent verification of the scope ('MANY') difficult, but the general claim of significant counterterrorism utility is broadly supported by bipartisan oversight assessments.
