A stock endorsement, five days before the midterms

This is the boilerplate endorsement format the Truth Social account has used since 2022, applied to David Stumbo, the Eighth Circuit Solicitor and Republican candidate for South Carolina Attorney General. The general election is November 3, so the post belongs to the late-cycle batch of down-ballot endorsements, not to any event in the historian's list. Earlier the same day the account posted the 3.4% GDP announcement. Several other posts that day carry no text and appear to be media.

Authorship

The post went up at 18:55 UTC, which is 2:55 pm Eastern (daylight time runs until November 1). He was most likely in Washington or on the campaign trail, and either way it falls inside business hours. The structure is the template almost word for word: an opener ("It is my Great Honor to endorse America First Patriot"), a résumé line with an exact office title ("Solicitor for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina"), a policy list of nine capitalized planks ("Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Champion our Law Enforcement and First Responders, Support our Military/Veterans, Advance Election Integrity..."), and a closer ("Complete and Total Endorsement... HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"). The exact judicial-circuit name and the slash in "Military/Veterans" read like staff work. The one line that sounds like him personally, "a place I love and WON BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024!", is itself a standard slot that staff fill in for any state he carried. Nothing in the post is disorganized. There is no drift, no self-interruption and no real error, so the text tells us almost nothing about his own state of mind or cognition.

What the template still reveals

Even a staff-drafted endorsement carries the subject's settled schemas. Here the self-reference comes before the candidate. South Carolina is introduced as a state "I love and WON BIG" in, so the state counts first as a place where he won and only then as the candidate's home. The endorsement is framed as a personal gift ("my Complete and Total Endorsement"), and the closing promise, "HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN", is about loyalty more than competence. This is the familiar transactional view of endorsements: the candidate's value rests on reliability, and the endorser's record of winning is what gives the endorsement its worth.

This post has no enemy. No opponent is named and no Democrat is attacked. The only threat comes in passing, "our always under siege Second Amendment", which gives the siege no author. That rules out reading the post as a reaction to a slight. Its trigger is routine campaign maintenance, and its state is mildly grandiose in the self-referential clause and warm elsewhere.

Rhetoric

The persuasion devices are list-based glittering generalities ("Courage and Wisdom", "Strong Conservative Fighter") and stacked superlatives ("wonderful State", "tremendous people", "incredible State"). Each plank works as a tribal marker. "Stop Migrant Crime" and "Advance Election Integrity" tie a state AG race to national grievance themes, and the latter draws on the long-running 2020 election-fraud narrative without stating it. The siege metaphor is a small appeal to fear. Nothing in the post dehumanizes anyone or calls for action against a target. On the order/chaos axis the candidate is cast as an order restorer ("Ensure LAW AND ORDER").

Facts

He carried South Carolina in all three elections, by about 14 points in 2016, 12 in 2020 and 18 in 2024, so "WON BIG" holds. Stumbo has been Eighth Circuit Solicitor since 2013, and before that he was a prosecutor. The rest of the post is promise and opinion and can't be checked.
