A loyalty poll posted in a week of record-low approval

The post is a video with no caption. In it, a television analyst reads out polling on one narrow group of voters, "MAGA GOP": 99% voted for Trump against Harris in 2024, 98% approve of him now, and 98% say they will vote for House Republican candidates. The analyst ends by saying "that support is actually really holding up strong." The phrasing ("MAGA GOP," "come the midterm elections," "Perhaps surprisingly, I might have thought it'd be 100%") sounds like a cable data segment of the kind Harry Enten presents on CNN. That identification comes from style alone and is not confirmed.

What matters here is how small the slice of the electorate is. The historian's notes for the week before this post record "record-low approval polling," and the subject's own video on September 25 tried to turn that pressure into "Retribution will be through success." This clip does not dispute the overall numbers. It changes the subject to the one group where his numbers cannot look bad. A respondent who calls themselves MAGA has already sorted themselves by loyalty to him, so 98% approval inside that group is close to true by definition. The post therefore shows that the subject went looking for a denominator that flatters him. It does not show that his standing is strong. This is a common pattern in his media reposts when broad polling turns against him: he amplifies a favorable crosstab and lets the audience treat it as the whole picture.

Putting a hostile network's analyst on screen to deliver the good news also fits a familiar pattern. When the subject reposts mainstream outlets, he usually picks segments where a channel he calls "fake news" ends up confirming his strength, and that borrows the outlet's credibility against itself. Earlier in the week, at the Presidents Cup, he had jabbed at "fake news media." If the source is CNN, the repost carries a small "even they admit it." This depends on the attribution, which is not confirmed.

What the selection reveals psychologically

The trigger looks like a need for supply under steady narcissistic pressure, not acute injury. Nothing in the clip responds to a specific attack. It works as reassurance: the people who matter most to him have not left. The state is grandiose but defensive, a show of strength that only holds up because the frame is so narrow. The main defense is selective attention close to denial. The unfavorable whole (low overall approval) goes unmentioned, and a favorable part is presented as the measure. A mild form of splitting also sits in the framing: the base is the group whose judgment counts, and everyone else is outside the frame.

On the narrative level, the clip casts him as a leader with an unbreakable following, a durable-strength story told in a period of electoral risk before the midterms. The analyst's line that there has been "no real decline in MAGA support" makes the case for him that nothing has been lost, so he does not have to argue it himself. The motive is agentic and centered on status and validation. The communal element, loyalty from followers, is valued for what it confirms about him.

The same afternoon he posted that he got rid of "THE IRAN NUCLEAR THREAT" "in one night," against his own estimate of "4-6 weeks." Taken together, the day's output is a run of claims of vindication: the military promise beaten, the political base intact. Each post answers a doubt that is not named.

Rhetoric, risk, and authorship

The clip uses selective statistics and a bandwagon appeal ("really, really strong"), and it uses outside media as validation. It names no opponent and contains no hostile language, so it gives no basis for a danger rating. The factual content belongs to the analyst, not the subject, and is not entered as his claim. The point worth recording is the circular construction of the subgroup, not whether the specific percentages are accurate.

The post went up at about 2:11 p.m. Eastern, in working hours, on a day when the account also published a formal judicial nomination in staff style. Clip reposts during business hours could plausibly come from either the subject or his digital team. The behavior on record is that someone chose this segment. Nothing in the post shows who did.
