Snopes fact-checked the resulting claims and confirmed the footage is authentic.

Where the claim breaks down. First, the garment: Snopes rated the framing a mixture, noting she wore a headscarf with her hair visible rather than practicing hijab as Muslim women do. Second, the framing as pandering: covering the head inside a mosque prayer hall is standard visitor protocol for women of any faith, not religious observance or a political costume. Hochul described it as a standard gesture of respect. This was at least her third such instance — she covered her head at a 2020 mosque event, and again in July 2025 at the funeral of NYPD Detective Didarul Islam, one of four people killed in a Midtown shooting.
