Post from Truth Social

A golf meme aimed at a retired opponent

The post is a single image with no caption from Trump. It shows an older man in a polo, shorts and cap swinging a club, with turf flying up near the ball, under the headline "Biden isn't even a 100 Handicap." The joke rests on the flying divot: it says the swing is a mishit, and that the golfer is worse than the worst recreational players. The description does not confirm the man is actually Biden. The caption says he is, and that is the claim Trump chose to pass along.

The choice fits a pattern that goes back years. In the 2024 debate Trump and Biden argued about handicaps, and Trump offered to play Biden if Biden could "hit the ball 50 yards." Golf is one of the few areas where Trump claims to be the best in a way anyone can measure, so a meme calling Biden a hopeless golfer lets him put Biden down and raise himself at the same moment without saying either. What drives the post looks like routine upkeep, not a response to a wound. Nothing in the week's events involves Biden or golf. The nearest pressures are the lawsuits over paid early access to his Truth Social posts and the ruling on the Epstein documents. Reaching for an old, easy target while those stories run could be displacement, but nothing in the image connects it to them, so that reading is weak.

Contempt without escalation

The image mocks Biden's body. "Isn't even a 100 Handicap" makes an old man's physical ability a sign of his worth, which carries on the long-running framing of Biden as frail and incompetent. That is devaluation, and a light form of splitting: the opponent is inept even at a pastime. The humiliation is real but mild. It is schoolyard ridicule of a former president who holds no office. It does not call for anyone to act, and it does not strip the target of his humanity. Biden is out of power, so the post does no strategic work against a rival. Its function is comparison, keeping alive a contrast in which Trump is the capable, vigorous one. That point matters more because Trump, at 80, faces the same age questions he once pressed on Biden. In that light, mocking another man's aging body looks like projection. With one image as the only evidence, this is a moderate-confidence reading at best.

Rhetorically the meme uses ad hominem ridicule and exaggeration ("100 Handicap"), and it invites viewers to laugh at an out-group figure. It asserts no factual claim in Trump's own words, so there is nothing to fact-check.

Who picked it

If Trump was at Bedminster, as he usually is in mid-August, the post went up at about 9:48 p.m. Eastern on August 14. It was one of several posts that day with no text. An evening repost of a meme on a favorite personal theme leans toward Trump choosing it himself. Evening posting is also typical of his staff's meme reposts, though, and with no written words there is nothing in the style to test. The attribution concerns who selected the image, and it is weak.
