The original photograph is on Getty Images (ID 2289066340), credited to Andrew Mordzynski/Icon Sportswire, created 9 August 2026, captioned: 'President Donald Trump drives in a golf cart with Gary Player at Bedminster before the forth [sic] round of LIV Golf New York on August 9, 2026 at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.' Player was therefore roughly 3,000 miles from Ayrshire on the day of the post. Notably, the Turnberry caption omits the word 'today' that the Bedminster caption includes. The attached photograph does not appear to show Player. I downloaded and analyzed it directly (1600x642, EXIF stripped). It is a genuine photograph, not AI-generated: crowd faces, hands and costumes hold up under magnification. The location is unambiguously Turnberry, with the lighthouse and the dome of Ailsa Craig visible. It shows roughly 100 people in Edwardian/1920s period golf attire (tweed jackets, plus-fours, flat caps, cloche hats, argyle socks) cheering on a green, with two elderly men in the foreground: one in period tweed with arms outstretched, one in a modern dark suit holding a club. Player, who is 5'6", is not identifiable; using the sea horizon as an eye-level reference, the suited man measures roughly 8% taller than the tweed-clad celebrant, and neither reads as Player. Reverse image search found no exact match anywhere on the indexed web: Yandex returned only visual-similarity matches to period golf films (Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Tommy's Honour), while TinEye, Bing and Google Lens were blocked or returned nothing. The image's provenance could not be established.
