TRUMP") is staff convention. However, signature Trump elements survive: idiosyncratic capitalization (WON BIG, BY FAR), the self-aggrandizing parenthetical about historic SC margins, the "I hear" hedge introducing the McMaster Jr. announcement, and the loyalty-as-currency framing read as authentic dictation. However, the 'gubernatorial candidate' framing is anachronistic and misleading. At the time Trump launched his 2024 campaign (late 2022/early 2023), Evette was the sitting Lieutenant Governor, not a declared gubernatorial candidate. She did not formally declare her gubernatorial candidacy until July 14, 2025. None of the current 2026 SC gubernatorial field (Evette, Mace, Norman, Wilson) were gubernatorial candidates at the time of the endorsement; the field did not yet exist. The claim retroactively applies a current label to a past act. On the structural question: South Carolina's lieutenant governor is no longer separately elected in a primary. Since constitutional changes that took effect in 2018, the gubernatorial nominee selects a running mate AFTER winning the primary, and the two then run as a joint ticket in the November general election. So at the time of Trump's post (before the June 9, 2026 primary), no LG candidate is yet officially named for any ticket — Evette herself first has to win a crowded Republican primary against Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, Alan Wilson, Josh Kimbrell, and others.

The McMaster Jr. claim does have direct sourcing. FITSNews reported on April 24, 2026 ("Pamela Evette's Lieutenant Governor Drama Rages On") that sources alleged Evette pledged to pick Henry D. McMaster Jr. as her running mate in exchange for Gov. McMaster's endorsement and a pathway to Trump's endorsement. However, that same article reported the arrangement was unraveling: the "quo" was incomplete, Gov. McMaster was "increasingly impatient" with Evette's failure to announce McMaster Jr., and speculation was mounting that Evette was leaning toward someone else (state Rep. James Teeple was named as a possible alternative). Earlier reporting (FITSNews, August 21, 2025) also discussed McMaster Jr. as a potential candidate for Attorney General, with observers questioning whether he would run given his "lack of experience."

Trump's own "I hear" hedge in the post acknowledges the claim's unconfirmed status.
