Post from Truth Social

The United States is the most powerful Country in the World. I completely rebuilt its Military in my First Term, including new and many refurbished nuclear weapons. I also added Space Force and now, continue to rebuild our Military at levels never seen before. We are even adding Battleships, which are 100 times more powerful than the ones that roamed the Seas during World War II — The Iowa, Missouri, Alabama, and others. I have stopped Nuclear Wars from breaking out across the World between Pakistan and India, Iran and Israel, and Russia and Ukraine. Rather than extend "NEW START" (A badly negotiated deal by the United States that, aside from everything else, is being grossly violated), we should have our Nuclear Experts work on a new, improved, and modernized Treaty that can last long into the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

This post exemplifies peak grandiose narcissistic supply-seeking, with the subject claiming singular credit for preventing three nuclear wars, completely rebuilding the US military, and adding new battleships. The factual claims range from misleading to unverifiable: no new battleships have been commissioned, and claiming to have prevented nuclear wars between three pairs of nations is an extraordinary counterfactual assertion. The post functions as a presidential decree (formal sign-off) during a period of Iran tensions, likely serving to project omnipotent control. Defense mechanisms center on pathological distortion — reality is comprehensively reshaped to support a narrative of unparalleled military accomplishment. The devaluation of NEW START as "badly negotiated" follows the characteristic pattern of diminishing predecessors to elevate self. Notably, the post lacks the rage or attacking quality seen in injury-driven posts; this is pure grandiose expansion, consistent with the subject's baseline but notable for the sheer scope of claims compressed into a single statement.

Fact Checks (4)
"The US is adding battleships 100 times more powerful than WWII-era Iowa, Missouri, Alabama class"
Mostly False

The US Navy has not commissioned new battleships. The Iowa-class were decommissioned in the 1990s. There may be new destroyer or cruiser programs but calling them 'battleships' is misleading and '100 times more powerful' is unsubstantiated.

"I completely rebuilt its Military in my First Term"
Half True

Trump's first term saw increased defense spending and some modernization but 'completely rebuilt' is a significant overstatement. Military readiness improvements were incremental.

"I have stopped Nuclear Wars from breaking out between Pakistan and India, Iran and Israel, and Russia and Ukraine"
Mostly False

This claim contains three sub-assertions, each of which can be evaluated against the factual record.

Pakistan and India: This is the strongest of the three sub-claims but still significantly overstated. The 2019 Pulwama-Balakot crisis was a genuine military confrontation between two nuclear-armed states. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote in his memoir that the crisis came close to nuclear war, claiming his team spent hours convincing each side the other was not preparing a nuclear strike. However, the Arms Control Association's detailed analysis concluded the "risk of nuclear conflagration remained extremely low" and that "neither side engaged in nuclear signaling or brinkmanship." The Trump administration played a supporting de-escalation role -- particularly in pressuring Pakistan to release a captured Indian pilot and supporting a UN terrorist designation -- but was not the primary mediator. In the separate 2025 India-Pakistan crisis, Trump claimed credit for the ceasefire, but India explicitly and repeatedly denied any US mediation, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stating the ceasefire was reached through direct India-Pakistan military channels and India's External Affairs Minister rejecting "third-party mediation" entirely. PolitiFact and FactCheck.org both noted India's direct contradiction of Trump's account, though a Stimson Center analysis acknowledged the US had "a major role in crisis management" in the final hours.

Iran and Israel: This claim is fundamentally undermined by the fact that Iran does not possess nuclear weapons. The IAEA, US intelligence agencies, and independent nuclear experts all confirmed Iran was not building a nuclear weapon as of 2025. While Iran had enrichment capabilities (441 kg of 60% enriched uranium as of June 2025), experts including Jeffrey Lewis of the Middlebury Institute stated "there was no evidence that Iran was close to a nuclear weapon." A nuclear war between Iran and Israel was therefore not a realistic scenario to "stop." Moreover, rather than preventing conflict, Trump escalated tensions with Iran -- participating in joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities in June 2025 and launching Operation Epic Fury in early 2026, leading to an ongoing war.

Russia and Ukraine: This is the weakest sub-claim. Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in 1994 under the Budapest Memorandum and does not possess them. While Russia made nuclear threats during the post-2022 war, that conflict began under Biden's presidency, not Trump's. During Trump's first term (2017-2021), there was no Russia-Ukraine nuclear crisis. In his second term, Trump has been attempting to negotiate an end to the war but had not succeeded as of the post date. There is no credible evidence Trump prevented a nuclear exchange here. CNN fact-checked and found that Putin made explicit nuclear boasts during Trump's first presidency, contrary to Trump's claims of having kept nuclear tensions in check.

Overall: PolitiFact rated Trump's broader "stopped six wars" claim as "Mostly False." The specific nuclear war prevention claim represents an even greater exaggeration. While the US played a constructive supporting role in one genuine crisis between nuclear powers (India-Pakistan 2019), expert consensus is that it was not close to nuclear war. The other two sub-claims lack factual foundation -- Iran has no nuclear weapons, and Ukraine has no nuclear weapons. Trump's claim to have singularly prevented three nuclear wars is not supported by evidence and is contradicted by the parties involved and independent experts.

"NEW START is being grossly violated"
Mostly False

Russia suspended participation in NEW START in 2023, but prior to that, compliance was generally verified by inspectors. 'Grossly violated' overstates documented concerns.
