Post from Truth Social

I have a Constitutional Right to appoint Judges and U.S. Attorneys, but that RIGHT has been completely taken away from me in States that have just one Democrat United States Senator. This is because of an old and outdated "custom" known as a BLUE SLIP, that Senator Chuck Grassley, of the Great State of Iowa, refuses to overturn, even though the Democrats, including Crooked Joe Biden (Twice!), have done so on numerous occasions. Therefore, the only candidates that I can get confirmed for these most important positions are, believe it or not, Democrats! Chuck Grassley should allow strong Republican candidates to ascend to these very vital and powerful roles, and tell the Democrats, as they often tell us, to go to HELL!

This post demonstrates Trump's characteristic response to institutional constraints on executive power. The blue slip tradition — a Senate custom limiting presidential discretion over judicial appointments in states with opposing-party senators — is reframed as a constitutional violation. The targeting of same-party Senator Grassley reveals a loyalty schema where Republican allies are expected to break institutional norms to serve Trump's interests, mirroring accusations leveled at Democrats. The mixed narcissistic state oscillates between grandiose entitlement ("Constitutional Right") and vulnerable victimhood ("completely taken away from me"). Defense mechanisms include distortion (custom → rights violation), projection (demanding norm-breaking while accusing opponents of same), and splitting (Democrats always win, Republicans are weak). The public shaming of Grassley functions as both pressure campaign and loyalty test, consistent with patterns of intra-party discipline through base mobilization. The "go to HELL" closer escalates rhetorical aggression while maintaining plausible deniability as directed at Democrats rather than Grassley himself.

Fact Checks (3)
"I have a Constitutional Right to appoint Judges and U.S. Attorneys"
Mostly True

Article II gives the president power to nominate, but appointments require Senate advice and consent. The blue slip is not constitutionally mandated but is a longstanding Senate custom.

"Democrats including Biden have overturned the blue slip on numerous occasions"
Half True

Biden as Judiciary Chair modified blue slip enforcement for certain nominees, and Democrats have weakened the practice at times, but 'numerous occasions' and 'Twice' for Biden overstates the record.

"The only candidates I can get confirmed are Democrats"
Mostly False

The blue slip tradition creates obstacles in states with Democratic senators but does not mandate Democratic nominees. Compromise candidates and blue-slip workarounds have been used historically.
