Post from Truth Social

I am proud to announce that, after much consideration and negotiation, US Steel will REMAIN in America, and keep its Headquarters in the Great City of Pittsburgh. For many years, the name, “United States Steel” was synonymous with Greatness, and now, it will be again. This will be a planned partnership between United States Steel and Nippon Steel, which will create at least 70,000 jobs, and add $14 Billion Dollars to the U.S. Economy. The bulk of that Investment will occur in the next 14 months. This is the largest Investment in the History of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. My Tariff Policies will ensure that Steel will once again be, forever, MADE IN AMERICA. From Pennsylvania to Arkansas, and from Minnesota to Indiana, AMERICAN MADE is BACK. I will see you all at US Steel, in Pittsburgh, on Friday, May 30th, for a BIG Rally. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

Fact Checks (4)
"US Steel will remain in America and keep headquarters in Pittsburgh"
Mostly True

The Nippon Steel-US Steel deal was restructured to allow Nippon Steel to acquire a stake while maintaining US headquarters in Pittsburgh, though this was the result of extended CFIUS negotiation, not solely Trump's intervention.

"Partnership will create at least 70,000 jobs"
Unverifiable

This specific number appears to be a projection. Job creation claims for large industrial deals are typically aspirational and include indirect/induced employment. The figure warrants skepticism.

"Will add $14 Billion to the U.S. Economy"
Unverifiable

Nippon Steel had pledged significant investment as part of deal negotiations, but the exact figure and timeline ('next 14 months') require independent verification.

"Largest Investment in the History of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania"
Unverifiable

An extraordinary superlative claim. Pennsylvania has seen massive investments over centuries including major infrastructure, energy, and tech projects. Likely hyperbolic.

vs.
“U.S. Steel is being bought by Nippon Steel of Japan”
Source claims Trump vowed to block Nippon Steel's purchase of U.S. Steel ('I will block this deal from happening'). Candidate announces the deal proceeding (rebranded as a 'partnership') rather than being blocked -- a reversal on the stated promise to stop the acquisition.

Daily Digest Economic Strongman Day: Tariff Threats Span Three Continents Before Afternoon Victory Laps

Trump spent the morning issuing economic ultimatums to Apple, the EU, and the UK on energy policy, building from a calm diplomatic post about a Russia-Ukraine prisoner swap to a heated threat of 50% tariffs on the EU. The afternoon shifted to celebration mode with a US Steel headquarters announcemen...
