- Business-hours posting (10:10 AM EDT)
- One of four near-identical endorsement posts released same day
- Verbatim phrase 'always under siege Second Amendment' repeated in Hageman endorsement posted same day
- Clean grammar, complete sentences, no typos
- Rigid template structure: credential → position → background → policy list → endorsement → ALL-CAPS closer
Trigger: Maintenance (DNC counter-programming week; routine political endorsement operation)
Consistent with batch of Wyoming-focused endorsements on same day; treated as plausible but not independently verifiable from provided context.
Opinion/rhetorical framing rather than factual claim. Gun rights have expanded in recent years via NYSRPA v. Bruen (2022) and other rulings. The characterization reflects political identity construction rather than legal reality.

Trump spent most of August 17 in campaign operations mode, flooding Truth Social with over 30 formulaic endorsements of Florida, Wyoming, and Alaska Republicans — almost all clearly written by staff. The day's real psychological content came in brief flashes: a late-night post amplifying a legal ana...
Analysis: Trump Endorsement of Darin Smith — August 17, 2024
Authorship Attribution
Assessment: Aide-written (high confidence)
UTC timestamp 14:10:51 converts to approximately 10:10 AM EDT (Trump was likely in the Eastern timezone; the Asheville economy speech was scheduled for this general period). Business-hours posting is the primary aide indicator.
More compellingly, this post is one of at least four near-identical endorsement posts released the same day (Dahlstrom, Barrasso, Hageman, Smith). The posts share an unmistakable template:
- Name + identity credential ("America First Patriot," "True Patriot," etc.)
- Position sought + geographic anchor
- Background qualifier ("Successful Entrepreneur," "Proven Fighter," etc.)
- Boilerplate policy list (taxes → economy → border → military/vets → Second Amendment — always in this sequence)
- "Complete and Total Endorsement"
- ALL-CAPS closing promise ("HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN" / "SHE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN")
The "always under siege Second Amendment" phrase appears verbatim in the Hageman endorsement posted the same day, confirming copy-paste template construction. Grammar is clean, sentences complete. This is almost certainly a batch operation by a campaign aide (likely Scavino's shop), with Trump's voice approximated by inserting his known stylistic signatures (capitalized nouns, superlatives, ALL-CAPS closer).
The ALL-CAPS conclusion — "HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" — is the one element that approximates authentic Trump rhetorical pattern, but its mechanical repetition across posts confirms template status.
Psychological Analysis
Narcissistic Dynamics
Trigger: Maintenance / political operation. No narcissistic injury is present. This is pre-scheduled political activity during a high-stakes week (DNC begins Aug 19).
Narcissistic State: Grandiose. The endorsement mechanism positions Trump as kingmaker — a sovereign dispensing legitimacy. "Complete and Total Endorsement" is a formulaic expression of absolute authority; the language frames Trump's endorsement as a transformative, sufficient credential. The subject confers status; he does not seek it here.
Narcissistic Rage: Absent. This is a positive-affect post with no rage indicators.
Defense Mechanisms: Minimal in a template context. Mild idealization is present (the endorsed candidate is rendered flawless, every attribute superlative) which mirrors Trump's own self-presentation logic: I endorse only the best because I am the best.
Level 1 — Dispositional Traits
- Extraversion (High): Assertive, declarative, no hedging
- Agreeableness (Low): Despite positive surface affect, the framing is dominance-display rather than genuine warmth
- Conscientiousness: Cannot assess from template; aide likely driving this
- Neuroticism: Absent here
- Openness: Rigid; policy list is ideological checklist
Level 2 — Characteristic Adaptations
Agency motives dominate. The post enacts power through endorsement dispensation. There is zero communion content — no warmth toward constituents, no mention of listening to voters. The "Fight" and "Defend" verbs frame political life as perpetual combat.
Schema: The world is perpetually under siege ("always under siege Second Amendment"). The only protection is the correct warrior-patriot aligned with Trump.
Level 3 — Narrative Identity
- Protagonist role: Off-stage sovereign/kingmaker. Trump does not appear directly; he appears as the authority whose endorsement defines legitimacy.
- Contrasting other: Implicit — the forces besieging the Second Amendment, the border threats, the economic predators. Named enemies absent from this post.
- Identity claims: "America First Patriot" taxonomy — the endorsement is simultaneously a loyalty certification.
- Narrative sequence: Neutral/redemptive framing — Darin Smith will fight and win.
Rhetorical Analysis
Techniques:
- Superlatives throughout ("Highly Respected," "Complete and Total," "Incredible Military/Vets")
- Capitalized Nouns as honorifics (Fight, Grow, Secure, Protect, Defend) — elevating policy verbs to sacred obligations
- Identity badging ("America First Patriot") — tribal membership signal preceding the policy list
- False urgency framing ("always under siege") — the Second Amendment is never safe, requiring constant warrior-defenders
- ALL-CAPS emotional punctuation as rhetorical close — mimics rally-speech energy in text form
- Anaphoric list structure ("Fight to... Grow... Secure... Protect... Defend") — rhythm of inevitability
Dehumanizing language: Absent
Violent imagery: Absent (metaphorical "Fight" only)
Stochastic terrorism indicators: Absent
Cognitive Status
This template-driven post offers essentially no signal for cognitive assessment. The formulaic construction bypasses spontaneous language production entirely. No word-finding difficulties, tangentiality, or paraphasia assessable. Baseline comparison inapplicable.
Fact Verification
| Claim | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| "Darin Smith is running for State Senate in Wyoming" | Unverifiable | Consistent with batch of Wyoming-focused endorsements on same day; treated as plausible but not independently verifiable from provided context. |
| "Second Amendment is 'always under siege'" | Mostly False | Opinion/rhetorical framing rather than factual claim. Gun rights have expanded in recent years via NYSRPA v. Bruen (2022) and other rulings. The characterization reflects political identity construction rather than legal reality. |
Overall Veracity: 35%
Contextual Note
The DNC was beginning its week (Aug 19-22, Chicago), providing strategic rationale for flooding the zone with endorsements — a counter-programming maneuver to dominate news in friendly media while Harris/Walz receive mainstream coverage. The Wyoming focus (Barrasso, Hageman, Smith) suggests deliberate geographic/political targeting rather than organic Trump enthusiasm.
Summary
Not clinically significant; summary omitted. This is a routine, aide-constructed political endorsement template, one of four released in batch on August 17, 2024. It represents campaign maintenance behavior with no psychological complexity beyond the structural grandiosity inherent in Trump's endorsement-as-legitimacy dispensation model. No rage, no cognitive markers, no danger indicators. The post is best understood as political counter-programming during DNC week rather than an expression of Trump's psychological state.
