Analysis: URL-Only Post Sharing Anti-Carroll Article

This post shares a National Pulse article from May 2023 about E. Jean Carroll's Facebook history, posted during the ongoing second Carroll defamation trial (January 2024). The post contains no original text — only a link.

Context

Trump was in the midst of the E. Jean Carroll defamation damages trial. This is one of two consecutive posts sharing negative articles about Carroll (the other from Gateway Pundit), indicating a coordinated effort to discredit his accuser during active litigation.

Authorship

Posted at 6:20 PM ET (Trump likely at Mar-a-Lago in January). Business hours, no original text, link-only format — consistent with aide-assisted posting, though Trump frequently directs such shares.

Psychological Dynamics

The post functions as externalized defense during legal threat. Sharing opposition research articles about Carroll serves to undermine her credibility without Trump making direct statements that could complicate trial proceedings. This represents a more controlled approach than his typical combative style, possibly reflecting legal counsel influence.

Defense Mechanisms

• Devaluation: Sharing content designed to diminish Carroll's credibility
• Projection: Implicit framing of Carroll as the one with bizarre behavior, deflecting from his own conduct under scrutiny

Rhetorical Function

Outsourcing the attack to third-party media allows plausible deniability while still signaling to followers how to frame the trial narrative.
