Post from Truth Social

Sadly, Facebook has been doing very poorly since they took me off. It has lost $750 Billion in value, and has become very boring. Hopefully, Facebook will be able to turn it around. Maybe their first step should be to get away from the ridiculous change in name to Meta, and go back to “Facebook.” Whoever made that decision, and the decision to take me off, will go down in the Business Hall of Fame for two of the worst decisions in Business History!

Posted at 7:33 PM EST on the second anniversary of January 6, this post conspicuously avoids any mention of that date's significance, instead processing the narcissistic injury of Facebook deplatforming through grandiose reframing. Trump attributes Meta's ~$750B market cap decline entirely to his removal - a textbook distortion defense that transforms rejection into proof of indispensability. The implicit claim is extraordinary: that one user's presence was worth hundreds of billions in market value. In reality, Meta's decline resulted from the broader tech selloff, Apple's privacy changes, TikTok competition, and costly metaverse investments. The post's structure reveals the narcissistic cycle: injury (deplatforming) → distortion (they failed because they lost me) → grandiosity (worst business decisions in history) → condescending advice (go back to the Facebook name). The "Business Hall of Fame" coinage is characteristic Trump rhetoric - inventing institutions to frame his narrative. The schadenfreude is notable but restrained; this reads more as supply-seeking than rage. The timing on January 6's anniversary, combined with complete avoidance of that topic, suggests either strategic deflection or genuine disinterest in commemorating an event that remains legally and politically dangerous for him.

Danger Assessment

None

Gaslighting Detected:
  • Attributes Meta's market decline to his removal, erasing actual causes (tech downturn, privacy changes, metaverse spending)
  • Implies Facebook needs him to survive, distorting business reality
Reality Distortions:
  • Meta lost $750B because of Trump's removal (false causation)
  • Facebook became boring without Trump (subjective reframed as objective)
Fact Checks (2)
"Facebook has lost $750 Billion in value"
Mostly True

Meta's market cap fell from ~$1T peak in Sept 2021 to ~$300B by late 2022, a decline of ~$700B+. However this was driven by broader tech selloff, Apple privacy changes, TikTok competition, and metaverse spending - not Trump's removal.

"Facebook has been doing very poorly since they took me off"
Mostly False

Trump was suspended Jan 7, 2021. Meta's stock actually rose significantly through Sept 2021 before declining due to factors unrelated to Trump. Correlation without causation.
