Post from Truth Social

Two years ago we had the strongest and safest Border in U.S. history. Hundreds of miles of Walls were built, my “Stay In Mexico” Policy was working fantastically, Title 42 was in full force and effect, Border Patrol and ICE were doing an incredible, tough, yet compassionate, job, and our Southern Border was, for the first time in decades, being spoken of in glowing terms. People weren’t even making the long hard journey up through Mexico. NOW OUR BORDER IS THE WORST IN HISTORY, & GETTING WORSE!

Danger Assessment

None

Gaslighting Detected:
  • Revisionist framing of border as universally praised ('spoken of in glowing terms') overstates consensus
  • Claim of 'strongest and safest Border in U.S. history' presents contested policy outcomes as settled fact
Reality Distortions:
  • 'Strongest and safest Border in U.S. history' is a superlative claim not supported by all metrics
  • 'Being spoken of in glowing terms' overstates media and public consensus on Trump-era border policy
Fact Checks (3)
"Two years ago we had the strongest and safest Border in U.S. history"
Mostly False

Border apprehensions dropped in FY2020 partly due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and Title 42, not solely policy effectiveness. 'Safest' and 'strongest' in all of U.S. history is an unsupported superlative.

"Hundreds of miles of Walls were built"
Half True

About 458 miles of border wall system were built during Trump's term, but much replaced existing barriers rather than new construction. Roughly 80 miles were in areas with no previous barrier.

"Stay in Mexico Policy was working fantastically"
Half True

MPP (Remain in Mexico) did reduce asylum claims at the border but faced significant legal challenges and humanitarian criticism. 'Fantastically' is subjective overstatement.

Daily Digest Day After Christmas at Mar-a-Lago: McConnell Rage Punctuates a Grievance-Laden Holiday

Trump spent the day after Christmas airing grievances from Mar-a-Lago, starting with nostalgic claims about his border policies and a defensive rewrite of his family's distancing from the 2024 campaign. His sharpest anger targeted Mitch McConnell over the omnibus spending bill, including a racial sl...
