Psychological Analysis: December 7, 2022 Truth Social Post

Post Content

Trump shares a Free Beacon article about an IRS watchdog report that reportedly undermines media claims he ordered audits of James Comey and Andrew McCabe, framing it as vindication: "As usual, was a Fake News Story!"

Context

This post appears amid a cluster of media-focused posts on the same day (links to NBCUniversal layoffs, CBS departures, AMC Networks CEO departure, The Recount shutting down). The pattern suggests a sustained theme of media schadenfreude and delegitimization. Meanwhile, the Trump Organization was just convicted on all 17 counts of tax fraud, and his Constitution "termination" statement drew widespread condemnation.

Authorship

Posted at ~3:59 PM EST (Trump likely at Mar-a-Lago). Business hours, brief commentary with linked article — could be either Trump or aide. The casual "As usual" and trademark "Fake News Story" capitalization pattern is consistent with Trump's voice. The brevity and link-sharing format is ambiguous.

Psychological Analysis

The post functions as vindication-seeking during a period of significant legal and political setbacks (Trump Org conviction, Walker loss, Constitution statement backlash). Sharing an exonerating article about a relatively minor story while ignoring major adverse developments is consistent with selective attention as a narcissistic maintenance strategy.

Defense Mechanisms

Denial/distortion: Redirecting attention from major negative news to a minor vindication
Projection: "Fake News" framework externalizes dishonesty onto media

Rhetorical Devices

"As usual" performs repetition compulsion — framing every unfavorable story as part of a pattern, training the audience toward automatic dismissal of negative coverage.
