Post from Truth Social

The ridiculous All Electric Car Policy of the Biden Administration will go down as the greatest gift that our Country has ever given to China. They have, or control, 100% of the material necessary to make the BATTERY - We have nothing, but we have the “gasoline,” & they don’t. Electric cars are much more expensive, both to buy and to run, will NEVER go nearly as far, & will have very little overall impact on the environment. This is almost as “dumb” as the U.S. Border Policy. LET MARKET DECIDE!

Fact Checks (4)
"China controls 100% of the material necessary to make batteries"
Mostly False

China dominates lithium processing (~60%) and rare earth processing (~80%), but does not control 100%. Australia, Chile, and others are major lithium miners. The US has domestic lithium reserves.

"Electric cars are much more expensive to run"
Mostly False

EVs have significantly lower fuel costs (electricity vs gasoline) and lower maintenance costs (fewer moving parts). Purchase price was higher in 2022 but total cost of ownership was approaching parity.

"Electric cars will NEVER go nearly as far"
Half True

In 2022, most EVs had shorter range than gas vehicles on a full charge vs full tank. However, ranges were rapidly improving (300+ miles becoming common) and adequate for most daily driving.

"Electric cars will have very little overall impact on the environment"
Mostly False

Transportation is the largest source of US GHG emissions. EVs produce significantly fewer lifecycle emissions even accounting for manufacturing and grid mix.

Trump's day split neatly into two grievances. The evening and morning hours were spent relitigating the Russia investigation, seizing on a Durham probe court filing to argue the FBI had framed him. A calm midday interlude included policy takes on the border and electric vehicles, a congressional end...
