Daily Psychological Narrative: December 7, 2016

Location & Timezone Context

Trump was based in New York City during this period of the presidential transition. He had held a rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina on the evening of December 6, then returned to New York for a TODAY show appearance the morning of December 7. All times are converted to EST (UTC−5) for analysis.

Timeline (EST)

• 10:33 PM Dec 6 (x_806340792247795715): Rally recap from Fayetteville, NC — standard post-event supply-seeking with video link
• 7:18 AM Dec 7 (x_806473064703725568): Announcement of upcoming TODAY show interview at 7:30 AM
• 1:38 PM Dec 7 (x_806568460620857349): Pearl Harbor 75th anniversary remembrance
• 2:37 PM Dec 7 (x_806583438748815361): Promotion for upcoming Des Moines rally with VP-elect Pence
• 6:38 PM Dec 7 (x_806568460620857300): Near-duplicate Pearl Harbor remembrance post

Psychological State Assessment

The dominant state across all five posts is grandiose, but of the mildest, most routine variety — closer to "stable-grandiose" than the expansive, combative grandiosity seen on high-intensity days. Every post is promotional or ceremonial. There are zero attacks, zero grievances, zero defensive postures. The aggregate rage level is effectively zero.

The authorship confidence scores are remarkably low across the board (0.05–0.20), strongly suggesting that all five posts were drafted or heavily shaped by staff. This is consistent with a day where the principal is occupied with media appearances and transition logistics, leaving social media to the communications team.

Escalation Analysis

No escalation pattern is detectable. Intensity begins at a minimal 0.10, dips to 0.05, and remains flat at 0.10 for the remainder of the day. This is among the calmest posting profiles in the dataset.

Theme Analysis

Two themes dominate:

1. Self-promotion / Supply-seeking (posts x_806340792247795715, x_806473064703725568): The rally recap and TODAY show plug serve the standard narcissistic supply function — directing attention toward his public performances. However, the tone is subdued and transactional rather than boastful.
2. Presidential maintenance / Ceremony (posts x_806568460620857349, x_806583438748815361, x_806568460620857300): The Pearl Harbor remembrance and Thank You Tour promotion reflect the responsibilities of the president-elect role. The Pearl Harbor post is notably somber and respectful — one of the few post types where grandiosity recedes in favor of institutional gravitas.

No obsessive return to any single topic. The theme distribution is healthy and varied.

Notable Duplicate Post

Posts x_806568460620857349 (1:38 PM EST) and x_806568460620857300 (6:38 PM EST) are near-identical Pearl Harbor remembrance posts, separated by five hours. The post IDs are strikingly similar, differing only in their final digits. This is likely an intentional repost for reach across time zones, a common staff-managed social media tactic, rather than a cognitive or behavioral anomaly.

Notable Absences

Perhaps the most analytically interesting aspect of December 7, 2016 is what Trump did not post about:

• Time Person of the Year: Trump was named Time's 2016 Person of the Year on this date — an enormous narcissistic supply event. The complete absence of any self-congratulatory post is highly unusual and suggests either (a) the announcement came with coverage he found less than fully flattering (Time's framing was ambivalent), (b) he was advised to let the story dominate on its own, or (c) a formal response was being prepared for the following day.
• Michigan recount halted: A federal judge ended the Michigan recount on this day, a clear legal victory. No victory lap, no attack on Jill Stein. This restraint is atypical and further supports the hypothesis that staff were managing the account with a disciplined hand.
• No attacks on media, opponents, or critics: Zero combative posts on a day that offered several potential triggers.

Sleep & Activity Pattern

• Last post Dec 6: 10:33 PM EST
• First post Dec 7: 7:18 AM EST
• Gap: ~8 hours 45 minutes — consistent with normal sleep

The posting window (7:18 AM to 6:38 PM EST) is entirely within normal waking hours. No evidence of sleep deprivation or circadian disruption.

Hypomanic Indicators

• Post frequency: 5 posts (4 on Dec 7 proper, 1 late-night Dec 6) — below average for a typical Trump day
• Time clustering: Posts are well-distributed across the day with healthy gaps (5+ hours between morning and afternoon clusters)
• Earliest post: 7:18 AM EST — normal
• Latest post: 6:38 PM EST — notably early
• Assessment: No hypomanic indicators whatsoever. This is a low-energy, staff-managed posting day.

Narrative Arc

The day follows a stable arc. There is no dramatic movement — no setback-to-comeback, no victory-to-victimhood, no chaotic thread-jumping. The messaging is linear and programmatic: rally recap → media appearance → patriotic ceremony → event promotion. This is the arc of a communications team executing a planned calendar.

Event Correlation

Despite multiple significant events (Time Person of the Year, Michigan recount halted, Indonesian earthquake), Trump's posts show no direct engagement with any external events except Pearl Harbor's 75th anniversary, which is a scheduled commemorative date rather than a reactive trigger. The absence of reactive posting is the most notable event-correlation finding.

Danger Assessment

All posts register at danger level "none." There are no targeting behaviors, no dehumanizing language, no calls to action against individuals or groups. The Pearl Harbor remembrance, while invoking military sacrifice, does so in a conventional, bipartisan commemorative register.

Cognitive Assessment

With all posts likely staff-authored (authorship scores 0.05–0.20), there is insufficient organic content to assess cognitive patterns. The posts that do exist are syntactically simple but appropriate for their contexts. No markers of confusion, tangentiality, or declining complexity are present.

Summary Assessment

December 7, 2016 represents a day of maximal staff control and minimal principal engagement on social media. The posting pattern is disciplined, thematically appropriate, and devoid of the combative or grandiose excesses that characterize higher-intensity days. The most psychologically interesting data point is the absence of any response to being named Time Person of the Year — a restraint that is either strategic or reflects preoccupation with other transition activities.
