A victory lap borrowed from Valley Forge

The post carries nothing he wrote. What he published is a meme: a black-on-white banner, "America is Back, Again!", set above a Revolutionary War oil painting of Washington mounted at a snowy winter encampment, Continental soldiers around a campfire, a thirteen-star flag on the pole. It goes up at 20:10 UTC — 4:10 p.m. Eastern on July 5, roughly eighteen hours after the Lincoln Memorial "Tribute to America" event and the 850,000-shell fireworks display, and within the same posting block as two captioned posts of his own about that night.

The behavior to read is the selection. Of the available July 5 imagery — the fireworks themselves, the crowd on the Mall, the Lincoln Memorial stage — he chose a painting he had nothing to do with, from a war fought 250 years earlier, and let one word carry the argument. "Again" performs a periodization: there was an America that was back once, at Valley Forge; it went away; it is back a second time now. The agent of the second return is unstated and therefore unmissable. Publishing the claim in someone else's brushwork, under someone else's caption, gets the self-aggrandizement said without his having to say it — and leaves him nothing to retract.

The winter-camp image and the lightning delay

The chosen scene is not a victory tableau. It is the endurance image in American iconography: cold, thin supply, waiting. That maps onto the story he had just told in his own words a few hours earlier — the crowd "were forced to leave because of the weather, the event was cancelled," then "I immediately overturned that decision," then "at least 150,000 people returned, and it was an even more spectacular evening than it would have been." Setback, personal intervention, larger triumph. The Washington painting supplies the same arc at mythological scale, which is why it reads as continuous with the surrounding posts rather than as a change of subject. The rain-out becomes a hardship to have come through.

The accompanying self-assessment in the adjacent post — "the Most Spectacular Fireworks Show I have ever seen, and I've seen them all" — is the same grandiose register in first person. This post is that claim without the first person, and the flattery lands harder for being routed through Washington: the transfer device, where a sacred symbol's prestige is attached to the present holder by adjacency alone. Nostalgia does the persuasive work; no opponent is named, no grievance articulated, and nothing is asked of the audience beyond recognition.

What is absent, and what that rules out

There is no target here. That matters for the reading because his celebratory posts frequently carry a derogated other inside them — the celebration proving someone wrong. This one does not, and its absence is why the state registers as expansive rather than injured: the week's live provocation, the July 2 Epstein-files deadline the DOJ declined to meet, draws no response, direct or oblique. The grandiosity is being fed by the event's success, not defended against an exposure.

Defensively the post rests on idealization — of the nation, of the founding, and by association of himself — which is the mature end of the immature tier and the least costly of his habitual moves. The archetype is Hero/Savior standing in the Order-Restorer position: hierarchies are not attacked or restructured, they are declared repaired. Bayonets and muskets appear in the painting as period depiction, not as menace directed at anyone.

He wrote no words, so the day's language questions belong to the two posts beside this one, not to this one. On the selection itself the reading is straightforward and the confidence is high: a nationalist celebration meme, published the morning after the thing it celebrates, doing grandiosity by borrowed image.
