A screenshot of a CNN World news article. It includes the CNN logo and "World" section label at top, a headline, byline, date, and a photo of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaking at a podium during a press gaggle, with an American flag and an "ASEAN Philippines 2026" backdrop banner behind him. Below the photo is an italicized video caption/duration and two paragraphs of article body text summarizing Rubio's remarks about Iran and President Trump's Iran policy.

Addressing reporters at a gaggle on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Manila, Rubio claimed, "Iran is begging us, both directly and indirectly: 'Let's do a deal. Let's talk. Let's talk.'" 1

A screenshot of page 2 of a printed document/article, plain black text on a white background, with a page number "2" at the bottom right. The text is a news excerpt discussing US-Iran tensions, quoting an unnamed official (referred to as "he") on Iran breaking ceasefire deals, Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi describing Iran's defense doctrine, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterizing the president's policy toward Iran.

Text in image: He added that every time the US and Iran agree on a ceasefire deal "the people that are in charge there, they either break it or they want to change it." "So they're going to continue to pay a price, and they're going every night the price gets higher and higher and higher," he added. "Right now, apparently, they haven't come to their senses, and so the president doesn't see a lot of utility in responding to their overtures at this point, because frankly, Iran is clearly not ready to make a deal –– at least, not one they're willing to live by." Iran's top diplomat Abbas Araghchi recently described the country's defense doctrine as "an eye for an eye." "Any aggression against Iran, including our infrastructure, will compel a powerful and decisive response," Araghchi said on X late Wednesday. "The president's policy is 'a head for an eye.' I mean, honestly, that's what it's going to be," Rubio said. 2

Video transcript 2:03

19 million barrels passed through yesterday, you're probably going to go through 20 million. You were basically almost halfway back of the original shortage of world oil supply, which was about 20% out of 100 billion barrels a day, so 20 billion dollars barrels a day. And look, I just wanted, I guess I have to say it, this memo is non-binding. It's just a political document that opened up a conversation. And whatever the IRGC people may or may not say, they're like Baghdad Bob during the Iraqi war reminds me of that, because there's no bearing in any. They're saying, for example, the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and we're having record transits right now. Women in the streets of Tehran are not wearing their hijab, walking around in short skirts on motorcycles, saying things and singing songs. It's as though they've lost the morality play that they tried to do. Trump has destroyed Iran's military, its industrial base, its economy. They're on their knees, and they're suing for peace. And he's got a diplomatic initiative, and it's going to take a while. I agree with that. It's going to take quite a while, but I take it very, very seriously. And meanwhile, energy prices coming down, gasoline prices coming down, and any money that might go in the next 30 days to Iran, or 60 days, is going to pass through the U.S. Treasury's escrow account. In other words, we will control any money from Iranian oil sales. You're talking about frozen funds. Actually, oil sales first, and the frozen funds may come later, but it will go through a Treasury escrow account which is aimed at purchasing American farm products, various commodities and medical products, to help the people in Iran. So I think, you know, Trump is absolutely in control. There's so much hand-wringing going on here, probably for political reasons, but I think he's on the right track.
