## What the media says

**Video transcript** (3:35), transcribed automatically, so names and numbers may be wrong. Speakers aren't identified, so a voice in it may not be his:

> Andrew Ferguson is the vice chairman of the task force to eliminate fraud, and he joins us tonight. Thank you for joining us, Andrew. Americans, as you know, are the most generous people on Earth, and they give to charities, and then they allow their tax dollars to be spent to help people, and then the government does this with it. Yeah, it's outrageous, and I could not have put it better than Vice President Vance. This is not that complicated. You've got to do two things if you want to protect American taxpayers. You have to make sure that money doesn't go out the door to the wrong people for the wrong purpose, and when it does, throw them in jail, and that is what the government has been doing this week. I was with Vice President Vance in Kansas City where he announced some big charges, and then in LA this week, look, the LA problem is huge. This has been going on for years. Under the Democrats here in Los Angeles and the Biden administration, they turned on the spigot, money flooded into LA, and homelessness got worse, and our superstar HUD secretary, Scott Turner, turned off the spigot. We cut off hundreds of millions of dollars that were otherwise going out to the door to the wantonly, hopelessly corrupt LA Homelessness Authority, and now we're putting these guys in jail. That's how you stop the fraud, and the vice president's right, this is not hard, but it took President Trump to make this happen. And we saw this with COVID as well, where there are simply no safeguards set up, but I do think that it is more than just sort of a blind eye. You have these operations that are set up that become kind of a cottage industry of their own, and it's all taxpayer money, and of course, they get it by bullying you, talking about how virtuous they are, and they need this money, and then they do the most evil thing possible, take money that was supposed to go to a homeless person or a drug addict and go spend it on herms or Tahiti. I couldn't agree more. Let me give another example of our California work this week. On Tuesday, we announced the arrest of 10 people in San Diego that were running ghost daycares. These were people from Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan. They came to this country, and instead of working, trying to improve their lives and improve this country, they took advantage of the generosity of American citizens, took their money, opened up fake daycares, took tens of millions of dollars, and out the door it went. Foreigners coming to this country and stealing from American citizens, President Trump is saying no more. He's shutting this down, and these people are going to jail, thanks to the Department of Justice. How much of this is getting exposed because the president has closed the border and put his foot down at the behest of American voters who are sick and tired of having open borders? How much of this is being exposed because of that? I have no doubt that part of the reason we are succeeding this fraud fight is because the president has cut off access to people from outside the United States who want to come here and rob American citizens blind. It isn't just foreigners and immigrants that do this by any stretch of the imagination, but there's no doubt that it was a huge incentive to come to this country and to try to steal from the federal piggy bank and steal from American citizens, and President Trump, shutting down the border, has eliminated that incentive, and that is protecting American citizens, and it is part of this fraud fight. But we have become known around the world as an easy mark, and it's our responsibility to maintain our own borders. Andrew, thank you so much. We were an easy mark before President Trump. Yeah, indeed. Thank you, Andrew.

# Analysis

_Machine-generated by trump.fm on 2026-09-18T02:30:11.664Z (UTC): a model's reading of this post, not his words. Its psychological terms describe the language, not a clinical assessment of him._

## A Fox segment that credits him three times

The clip is a Fox News interview. The subject's own companion post that evening names Charlie Hurt as the host. The guest is Andrew Ferguson, identified as vice chairman of the fraud task force led by Vice President Vance. Nominally the segment is about the task force's week of prosecutions in Kansas City, Los Angeles and San Diego. In roughly three minutes it also credits Trump personally three times: "it took President Trump to make this happen," "President Trump is saying no more. He's shutting this down," and the host's sign-off, "We were an easy mark before President Trump." The subject posted the segment with nothing of his own attached, so the behavior under study is putting a subordinate's on-air praise in front of his audience within hours of the broadcast.

The companion text post splits the credit with Vance ("headed up by wonderful V.P., JD Vance"), and the clip does too ("I could not have put it better than Vice President Vance"). Sharing credit this way is somewhat less self-centred than the usual pattern, where credit collects around him alone. Vance is framed as the executor, though, and Trump as the precondition: "this is not hard, but it took President Trump." Publishing that framing lets the subject keep the causal credit for work formally assigned to someone else.

## What the clip says about foreigners

The segment's most consequential passage names nationalities: the ten San Diego defendants were "people from Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan" who "instead of working... took advantage of the generosity of American citizens." Ferguson generalizes this into "Foreigners coming to this country and stealing from American citizens." The host then asks how much of the fraud is being exposed "because the president has closed the border." Ferguson accepts the premise, saying immigration was "a huge incentive to come to this country and to try to steal from the federal piggy bank." He also adds a caveat: "It isn't just foreigners and immigrants that do this by any stretch of the imagination." Because the clip was posted uncut, the caveat reaches the audience too. But the caveat is one sentence and the frame running around it is foreign-born people robbing citizens "blind."

Somalia in particular has been a repeated target of the subject's rhetoric around benefit fraud. Posting a clip that ties that nationality to theft from "American citizens" fits that pattern. The danger rating rests on this group-level link between national origin and predation. What keeps it from going higher is the punishment the clip names: prosecution ("throw them in jail," "these people are going to jail, thanks to the Department of Justice"). There is no call for action outside the law, and nothing dehumanizing beyond calling the fraudsters "evil."

## Before and after, told by a proxy

The segment has a clean redemption structure that the subject does not have to narrate himself. Under Democrats "they turned on the spigot, money flooded into LA, and homelessness got worse." Then "our superstar HUD secretary, Scott Turner, turned off the spigot." This is splitting, with the praise and blame assigned by party: the "wantonly, hopelessly corrupt LA Homelessness Authority" and "the Biden administration" on one side, a "superstar" cabinet member on the other. The idealization of his own appointees sits in the clip's wording, and posting it adopts that wording. This fits the order-restorer archetype: order for "American taxpayers," and chaos in the form of prosecution for a Democratic city's agency and foreign-born defendants. Timing matters here. The post falls about six weeks before the midterms, on a day otherwise given to endorsing Virginia House incumbents.

The motive reads as a bid for admiration. Nothing in the week's events suggests a slight he was answering. The clip reinforces his "PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH," "Secure the Border" themes, and the companion text is purely celebratory ("FANTASTIC"). The narcissistic state is grandiose and calm. There is no anger to measure.

## Where his own gloss goes past the source

The clip mentions "hundreds of millions of dollars" cut from LA and "tens of millions" taken by the San Diego daycares. The subject's companion post says the task force is "bringing in Billions of Dollars." That jump in scale is in his own words and belongs to the other post's fact-check. It is worth recording here because this clip is the source he was summarizing, and his summary inflates it. The factual claims inside the clip (the ten San Diego arrests, the cutoff of LAHSA funding, Ferguson's title) are Ferguson's and the host's. They are discussed here and not entered as claims by the subject.

## Who chose the clip

The post went up at 02:13 UTC, 10:13 p.m. Eastern on September 17, the evening of Constitution Day, when he was most likely back in Washington after the Ireland trip. Comparing the media and post IDs puts the upload about six minutes before posting. That timing matches real-time TV reaction, and so does the companion post's "tonight on FoxNews." Clipping and uploading a broadcast segment is often staff work, though, and with no written words there is nothing stylistic to decide it. The attribution concerns who selected and posted the segment. Nothing in the post is his own writing.

The post contains no language of his own, so it gives no data on word-finding, coherence or syntax, and none is inferred from the broadcaster's speech.

## That day

_From trump.fm's machine-generated digest of the day, not his words._

**CNN, MSNOW and Politico banned from the White House "effective immediately," with "Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow"**

Trump spent Thursday night posting Fox News clips of other people praising him, including a historian who ranked him behind only Washington and Lincoln. Just after midnight he threatened whoever leaked his advisers' warnings about the Iran conflict: "When we find you, you will pay a big price." On Friday afternoon his account put out fifteen identical endorsements in about twenty minutes, and several carried campaign videos with harsh personal attacks on Democrats, including one tying a Muslim-American Senate candidate in Michigan to Hamas and 9/11. Soon after, he banned CNN, MSNOW and Politico from the White House, said more outlets would follow, and posted a fan video of a lion that has to "show the jackals who he is." The evening turned to celebration, with a Greenland security deal he called "a dream come true" and a list of accomplishments from what he called his "Term Three."
