## What the media says

**Video transcript** (reposted clip, 5:50), transcribed automatically, so names and numbers may be wrong. Speakers aren't identified, so a voice in it may not be his:

> We are now joined by Tom Homan, the Border Czar. Welcome back, sir. How are you? And I guess it's one year later. You guys cleaned up Washington, DC. Well, look, America should be celebrating. President Trump, once again, promises made, promises kept. I mean, a year ago, like you said, he said, let's clean up DC. We're the strongest nation on the face of the earth. We should have the safest capital. This should be a shiny example of the entire world. And it wasn't. I mean, I would not walk the streets of DC two years ago without a concealed weapon. It's dangerous. The crime was rampant. Homicides were rampant. And in the year that President Trump has taken on DC, you're talking over 16,000 of them rest. You're talking almost 2,000 weapons, firearms, taken off the streets of Washington, DC. Now, I work in this city every day. Now, the city, I've never seen it so clean and so safe. Again, promises made, promises kept. I just wish cities like Chicago would take President Trump on his offer and help clean up Chicago and stop them massive shootings every weekend. Let's take a look at some of the numbers. Here's homicide, C03, please. We're talking down a very significant amount so far. Let me ask you, how much of this was an illegal migrant problem as opposed to, you know, American born and raised criminals? It was a big problem with illegal aliens in Washington, DC. Washington, DC is very proud of being a sanctuary. And when President Trump started this operation, we had more cooperation with the local PD than we ever had before on immigration related matters. I mean, you know, and that's just not Washington, DC, Greg. I look at the numbers. You know, June, June, ICE arrested more illegal aliens than any time in the history of the agency. In July, they blew June numbers away. The last two months, record deportation, never seen anything like it before under President Trump's leadership. But in DC, we took thousands of illegal aliens off the street and a percentage of them were public safety threats. They're no longer here. They're out of the country that have been deported. You know, I hear sometimes from some of my allies in MAGA and they feel, and maybe they're misinformed, that mass deportations have been scaled back, that we're not seeing the mass deportations that a lot of folks wanted to see. What would you say to those folks? I don't know what these numbers indicate. You say they're higher than ever before, higher than under Obama. So what do you say to those people who may not be satisfied? Look at the data. I mean, what I just said was, I mean, people said, well, we're not making many arrests who did last year. That's a bunch of crap. I mean, June was the highest month in the history of the agency. July, they broke another record. And I expect to break another record in August. We'll remove more people. Record number of arrests and deportations, despite the fact, now, this is what people need to understand. They think it's just, well, go arrest an alien and deport them. No, we got to find the alien who don't want to be found. We got to take him to detention. Then there's a process, get travel documents, get orders to remove them. It's just not a daily thing. It doesn't happen that easily. But record numbers in the last two months, despite the fact, we got over 100 nationwide injunctions filed against us. So we're constantly in court with these radical judges. We had, last count, over 65,000 habeas cases. That's 65,000 aliens that we weren't allowed to detain, which means now they're back in the wind. We got to go find them again. Radical judges in the sanctuary cities are trying to slow this down. And they have a little bit. But bottom line is, despite all that, despite the injunctions, despite the radical judges, despite the sanctuary cities, despite the difficulty removing aliens to countries that don't want to give us travel documents, we're making record. Historic number of arrests and deportations, despite all that, am I happy with the number right now? No, I want more too. And as we bring these thousands of more agents on, we expect those numbers to increase. And we're going to keep fighting. DOJ is fighting the sanctuary cities. We win some of those cases in sanctuary cities, you're going to see the numbers climb even further. I'm pushing for more work site enforcement operations, and that's happening now. So I expect the numbers to climb, even though they're historic, I'm not happy either. I want more. Real quick, this is President Trump from the Oval Office. Taking advantage of the birth tourism situation. C-0-9, please. How many individuals take advantage of birth tourism? Is there a number that you-- I'll tell you right now. Hundreds of thousands, okay? Hundreds of thousands. One man came in with a family head, said he had 56 children. Another one came in, they said they had 98 children. This was not what it was for. This was meant for the babies of slaves. It was right after one week or two weeks after the Civil War ended. And this is probably going to go probably back to the Supreme Court. I think that's where it's headed. Hey, listen, Tom Homan, we have to go. Real quick, Tom Homan, the border czar. Do you have a formal name like for your title, like the drug czar, is like the Director of National Drug Control, something or other. Is there a formal subtitle to border czar? Assistant to the president. There you go. I like it. Very prestigious. But maybe not as prestigious as border czar. Border czar has us. Border czar rocks. Border czar rocks. And remember, the other border czar we had made quite a change from the last border czar. We sure did. We sure did. I wonder if she could find that on a map. I really, really do. Tom Homan, thank you very much. The border czar and assistant to the president. To be continued, sir, and we'll be right back.

# Analysis

_Machine-generated by trump.fm on 2026-08-19T16:43:13.863Z (UTC): a model's reading of this post, not his words. Its psychological terms describe the language, not a clinical assessment of him._

## Analysis: Bare Self-Link Post (Truth Social, 2026-08-18, 09:25:14 UTC)

### 0. Content Status and Methodological Caveat

The post contains **no authored text** — only a naked URL pointing to another post on Trump's own account (`statuses/117085266086570209`). An attempt to retrieve the linked post via WebFetch failed: Truth Social renders status pages client-side, and the fetched document returned only the site shell with no post body. **The substantive content of the amplified post is therefore unavailable**, and every content-level inference below is correspondingly bounded.

One structural inference is available. Truth Social inherits Mastodon's snowflake ID scheme, in which IDs are monotonic in creation time (`timestamp_ms << 16 | sequence`). The delta between the linking post (117115788618837208) and the linked post (117085266086570209) is ≈3.05×10¹³, implying roughly **5.4 days** of elapsed time — placing the amplified original at approximately **2026-08-12/13**. That window coincides with several high-salience adverse events in the provided record: the federal judge clearing additional Epstein victim files for release (Aug 12) and The Intercept's constitutional challenge to the $100,000/month advance-post-access scheme (Aug 12). It also precedes the USS Abraham Lincoln crew-conditions story (Aug 14). Whether the resurfaced post relates to any of these is **not established** and should not be assumed; the ID arithmetic establishes timing only, not topic.

### 1. Authorship Attribution

**Assessment: probably authentic Trump (0.75, medium confidence).**

*Timing.* 09:25 UTC = **05:25 EDT**. Mid-August of a non-election-cycle summer places Trump most plausibly at Bedminster or in the New York/Washington corridor — Eastern time in any case. A 5:25 a.m. post falls squarely in the pre-dawn window that is among the most reliable authenticity markers in this corpus. It is far outside any staff communications workflow.

*Form.* The post is a bare URL with **zero framing text** — no "Great!", no "Thank you", no all-caps coda, no signature. This is diagnostically informative in both directions:

- **Toward Trump:** aide-drafted posts in this account are characteristically *packaged* — they carry endorsement boilerplate, third-person references, or a "President DONALD J. TRUMP" signature (compare the Ashley Moody, Byron Donalds, and Jennifer Balkcom posts of 2026-08-17, all of which are template-constructed with policy lists and family details). An aide has no professional reason to publish an unlabeled self-link; it communicates nothing to an audience and accomplishes no messaging objective. It reads as an *operational* action — the user surfacing his own prior post for re-circulation — not as a drafted communication.
- **Toward ambiguity:** the post carries none of the positive authenticity markers that normally raise confidence — no typos, no homophone errors, no mid-post drift, no capitalization bursts. Textless posts are stylometrically near-null. Confidence is therefore capped at medium.

The contrast with the immediately preceding posts is instructive. The Aug 17 endorsement trio shows the signature aide/hybrid pattern: identical scaffolding ("a State that I love, and WON BIG, in 2016, 2020, and 2024"), enumerated policy planks in caps, spouse-and-children detail. The Aug 18 Alaska and Donalds posts are shorter and more voice-like ("Dumocrats," "these Fraudsters," the doubled space before "INCUMBENT SENATOR"). The present post belongs to neither category — it is a low-effort self-amplification act, which in this corpus skews authentic.

### 2. Psychological State and Function

Absent content, function must be inferred from the *act* rather than the message.

**Self-amplification as supply maintenance.** Re-posting one's own five-day-old output is a self-referential loop: the account's audience is directed back to the account's own prior utterance. The communicative payload is not information but **re-assertion of salience** — a bid to keep a prior statement in circulation past its natural attention half-life. In the characteristic-adaptations frame (Level 2), this is a low-intensity **agency/status** maneuver rather than a communion act; there is no other party, no reciprocity, no audience-directed benefit.

**Possible pre-emptive or restorative timing.** The 5.4-day lag is notable. A post is normally amplified within minutes to hours if the goal is reach. A five-day lag suggests the original acquired *new* relevance — either because subsequent events appeared to vindicate it (a redemption-shaped "I told you so" move) or because it needed re-establishing against contrary developments. The surrounding week was adversarially dense: the Epstein files disclosure order, the Truth Social monetization lawsuit, the Lincoln crew story, and the expiry on Aug 17 of his own 60-day Iran deadline with no agreement — the last of which is a documented, self-imposed, publicly failed deadline and the most likely candidate for a face-restoring re-circulation. **This remains conjecture** and is flagged as low confidence.

**No rage signature.** Nothing in the observable post indicates acute narcissistic injury or rage discharge. The affective temperature is null. This is a maintenance-tier act, not a reactive one.

### 3. Defense Mechanisms

Defense attribution is necessarily thin here. The one mechanism the *act itself* supports is a mild **rationalization/self-vindication** structure: recycling prior words as evidence of foresight substitutes assertion for accountability. If the amplified post does relate to the lapsed Iran deadline or to the Epstein disclosures, the same act would carry **denial** (treating an unresolved or adverse development as already answered by a prior statement). Both are held at low confidence pending content.

### 4. Rhetorical Analysis

The post deploys essentially **no rhetoric**. There is no argument, no target, no framing, no superlative. Its only rhetorical property is **repetition-as-emphasis** — the redundancy channel of the RAND "firehose" model, in which volume and re-circulation, rather than novel content, do the persuasive work. Assertion by iteration requires no evidence and cannot be rebutted, since nothing new is claimed.

Notably absent relative to this subject's baseline: no dehumanizing language, no enemy designation, no violent or eliminationist imagery, no caps-lock intensification, no ad hominem. On every rhetorical dimension this post sits at or near zero.

### 5. Cognitive Observations

No language sample exists, so **no cognitive markers can be scored** — no word-finding, paraphasia, tangentiality, or syntactic-complexity assessment is possible. Complexity is recorded as null-equivalent and explicitly **not** as a decline signal; absence of text is not absence of capacity.

One weak signal deserves neutral logging for longitudinal purposes only: **content re-circulation** is behaviorally adjacent to perseveration, and the endorsement posts of Aug 17 show heavy verbatim templating ("a State that I love, and WON BIG, in 2016, 2020, and 2024" repeated across two posts within a day; "Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime" repeated across three). That templating is, however, far more parsimoniously explained by **aide authorship using a boilerplate generator** than by clinical perseveration, and is scored accordingly — mild, low-confidence, with the aide-authorship explanation preferred.

### 6. Danger Assessment

**None.** No target is identified, no grievance articulated, no action implied, no mobilization language present. The stochastic-terrorism triad is entirely absent from the observable post. This assessment applies only to what is visible; the linked content is unreviewed.

### 7. Fact Verification

No verifiable factual claims are asserted. The post makes no propositional statement. The only candidate claim — the content of the linked status — could not be retrieved and is therefore not offered as a fact-check item rather than being assigned a hedged verdict.

### 8. Longitudinal Note

This post is **not clinically significant in isolation** and shows no deviation from baseline. Its analytic value is archival: it is a timestamped pointer establishing that a specific ~Aug 12–13 post retained sufficient importance to the subject to warrant manual re-surfacing at 5:25 a.m. five days later. Should the linked post's content become recoverable through another channel, this record should be revisited — the amplification act would then become interpretable as either vindication-seeking or damage-control, which are meaningfully different psychological events.

## Authorship Analysis

**Self-Written** (score: 75%)

### Indicators

- Posted 09:25 UTC = approximately 05:25 EDT, a pre-dawn window strongly associated with authentic authorship and outside any staff workflow
- Zero framing text — no endorsement boilerplate, no third-person 'President Trump' construction, no 'President DONALD J. TRUMP' signature that characterizes the aide-drafted endorsement posts of 2026-08-17
- Bare self-link is an operational re-circulation act with no messaging objective; aides have no professional reason to publish an unlabeled pointer to the account's own prior post
- Counter-indicator: textless post offers no stylometric surface — no typos, homophone errors, mid-post drift, or capitalization bursts — so no positive authenticity markers are available, capping confidence at medium
- Contrasts with same-week template-generated posts (repeated verbatim scaffolding 'a State that I love, and WON BIG, in 2016, 2020, and 2024' across multiple endorsements), which show clear boilerplate construction

## That day

_From trump.fm's machine-generated digest of the day, not his words._

**The morning after the Iran agreement lapsed, he posted an uncaptioned map calling the Strait of Hormuz “NEW U.S. Territory”**

It was primary day in Alaska and Florida, and most of his feed was about candidates he had backed and races they won. He began before dawn by warning Alaskans about a supposed “imposter” Dan Sullivan, posted a thousand-word Oklahoma endorsement that doubled as an attack on the rival, and closed the evening with nine judge nominations and a run of matching “WINS!” graphics. The morning after the Iran agreement ran out without a deal, he said no talks were happening or planned and posted a map labeling the Strait of Hormuz “NEW U.S. Territory.” His own vote totals kept turning up in posts about other people, and a late-afternoon claim about noncitizen voters ended with him declaring he had won in 2020. The mood stayed mostly calm and self-congratulatory, and the week's harder stories, from the Navy carrier complaints to the Epstein files, never came up.
