## Post text

> This is according to Michael F. Cannon, Director of Healthcare Policy at the CATO Institute: "Don't extend the ObamaCare subsidies — Would be like making ObamaCare permanent. You have to stop talking about it now. Tell Congress, 'I want to make permanent those Rules that I put into place in 2018, giving people access to ObamaCare exempt planning' — Because then Premiums will FALL, by 50% or more, for most people. I want to go back to the three year window where you can get in there for ObamaCare where you won't pay as much. Don't expand ObamaCare. Congress must make Trump Rules permanent. These were President Trump's 2018 Short Term Plans Rule that President Obama terminated. All Congress has to do is say, 'Look, the Short Term Plans can last up to 36 months, your Insurer can sell you a Renewal Guarantee so it can last even beyond that period, and you will get lower priced Insurance, better Insurance, Longer Term Insurance and, it doesn't cost Taxpayers a dime or, it won't destabilize ObamaCare.' Much simpler than what President Trump's advisers are selling him, much better to assuage the fears of nervous Democrats, because we had these Rules in place for six years, and ObamaCare did not crater. Subsidies will not solve this problem. Government should be capping what it spends on Healthcare at ZERO. Send them a check. No need for subsidies. Congress has to get out of the way of Private Insurance Companies. Give the money to the Consumers to buy directly from the Health Insurance Companies."

# Analysis

_Machine-generated by trump.fm on 2026-03-22T06:53:57.523Z (UTC): a model's reading of this post, not his words. Its psychological terms describe the language, not a clinical assessment of him._

## Analysis: Healthcare Policy Quote Post (2026-01-11)

This post is a lengthy, lightly edited quotation attributed to Michael F. Cannon of the Cato Institute, arguing against extending ACA subsidies and in favor of making Trump's 2018 Short-Term Plans Rule permanent. The post functions as policy advocacy through appeal to authority.

### Authorship
The post reads as aide-composed or at minimum aide-polished. The structure—attribution, extended block quote, policy detail—is uncharacteristic of authentic Trump posts. The capitalization pattern (selective emphasis on "Premiums," "Insurance," "Consumers") is consistent with Trump-world formatting conventions but the coherence and length of the quoted material suggest staff involvement. Posted at ~10:25 AM ET (Trump likely at Mar-a-Lago or White House), squarely in business hours.

### Psychological Function
This post serves a **maintenance** function—routine policy signaling to the base. By quoting an external authority (Cato Institute), it employs **rationalization** and **appeal to authority** to frame deregulation as common-sense reform. The framing "Trump Rules" and "President Trump's 2018 Short Term Plans Rule" serves narcissistic supply by embedding the subject's name into policy identity.

### Rhetorical Techniques
The post uses the third-party endorsement structure ("This is according to...") to create distance while amplifying agreement. The quote itself deploys false simplicity ("much simpler"), zero-sum framing ("capping at ZERO"), and populist appeal ("give money to Consumers").

### Cognitive Notes
No significant markers. The post is too structured/quoted to assess organic language production.

## Fact Verification

| Claim | Verdict | Evidence |
|-------|---------|----------|
| "Michael F. Cannon is Director of Healthcare Policy at the CATO Institute" | **Mostly True** | Cannon is Director of Health Policy Studies at Cato (not 'Healthcare Policy' — minor title variation) |
| "Trump put Short Term Plans Rule in place in 2018" | **True** | The Trump administration finalized the Short-Term Limited Duration Insurance rule in August 2018, expanding plan duration to 364 days renewable up to 36 months |
| "President Obama terminated the Short Term Plans Rule" | **Mostly False** | The Biden administration (not Obama) issued a rule in 2024 limiting short-term plans back to 4 months. Obama-era rules limited them to 3 months but Trump's rule came after Obama left office. |
| "Premiums will fall by 50% or more for most people" | **Mostly False** | Short-term plans are cheaper but offer less coverage; they are not equivalent to ACA plans. The 50% figure for 'most people' is not supported by independent analyses. |

Overall Veracity: 55%

## That day

_From trump.fm's machine-generated digest of the day, not his words._

**Cuba Ultimatum Punctuates Otherwise Quiet Mar-a-Lago Morning**

A low-volume morning from Mar-a-Lago was dominated by a sharp geopolitical threat to Cuba that celebrated the deaths of Cuban security personnel in Venezuela and demanded the country "make a deal before it is too late." The rest of the day was routine — mostly staff-posted link shares covering gas prices, healthcare policy, a cultural grievance about Netflix, and a notable boost of Roger Stone's article advocating for the pardon of a Honduran president convicted of drug trafficking. No anger was detected across any posts, but the Cuba ultimatum carried an unsettling emotional flatness about mass casualties. Posting stopped before noon, making this one of the quieter days on record.
