> Join me now, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and author of "Dying Citizens," Victor David. Hanson, V-D-A, it's really good to have you on, my friend, right now. - Thank you. - Are we, with all this arraignment, Trump gets arrested? Have we become a Banana Republic? - We're well on our way. The weird thing about all this, Eric, is that it's so asymmetrical, so the people who are doing this never would imagine that a prosecutor in Utah or Appalachia or somewhere like that might wanna indict, for political reasons, a Democratic ex-president or a Democratic front runner in a primary. They just never think like that. And that's sad and tragic, 'cause I don't know how you get their attention other than to retaliate in kind. But if you do that, then you get into this cycle of Third Worldism, as we're in now. And it's very ironic, because if she really, if prosecutor Willis was really worried about election denialism and using the levers of government and public influence to have some kind of conspiracy to overturn a genuine balloting, then she would have gone after Stacey Abrams. She's in her own state. She canvassed the country, tried to drum up support to overturn the election. She was introduced as the real governor. She had people in the legislature protest and delay on her part to disrupt the balloting, and yet nothing. So we know it's ideologically driven. So Victor, with all this indictment of Trump and arrangements and arrests and mugshots and prints, a little research, and this is just unbelievably scary to me, that I now realize the way the system works. We elect prosecutors, so they're elected officials. They can't really be taken out unless they're impeached. So we like them, but there's no limit to what they can do. In other words, the grand jury is not necessary for Fonny Willis or anyone else to indict Trump or anyone else. So technically, a prosecutor can go after someone they don't like for whatever reason in the world. They might like the way they look. And there's no, they're not held to power. So go ahead. How do we fix this? And is there a fixable? - No, I think you're all right. I think most people believe that in a year or two, and I think the prosecutor, Willis included, this will be overturned on appeal, if not at the state level, at the federal level. But that's not the point. She's a politically driven prosecutor. So she thinks that she's going to tie up a candidate she disagrees with. In fact, she's raised money on this prosecution and her own efforts to be reelected district attorney. But the point is she's gonna tie up a political opponent and she's going to try to bankrupt him. And she's trying to, I guess we would use the word lawfare, but she's under no, she's not under any pretense that it's not political. She understands that, but it's a methodology to hurt a political candidate. And she understands that, but more importantly, she also understands that all of these prosecutors, James, Bragg, Willis, Smith are sending a message to America. And that is get on the right side of the ideological spectrum and you're not gonna be subject to this. Get on the wrong side and the administrative state and the court system which supersede transitory elections and majorities in the Congress are always going to be there. And they're gonna be hard on a Scooter Libby or Conrad Black or any notable conservative if they buck the system. So you better join us. And that's the way the left has always worked throughout history. Join us and it's in your advantages and don't be left out with the minority in the cold or you're gonna pay for it. So it sends us a sharp message and you can really see rhinos and independents and the conservative movement have made the necessary adjustments because they do not wanna be out there. And when you see those mug shots of all those people, the real message is the subtext is, do you wanna be in that gallery of indicted? You don't. So just get out of the process and let us handle. That's the message. - VDH, VDH. So a tiny document, a small document, the Constitution, has withstood the test of time. It's an incredible document. The Founding Fathers saw so many things in the future for where they saw the checks and balances needed between the three tiers of government, the three branches of government. Is this an error in the Constitution? Is this something that needs to be fixed? - No, the Founders understood that you had to have a virtuous citizenry for the Constitution to work because any system could be manipulated. And they would be very worried. We had an article in the New York Times where the left is actually saying they don't believe in elections anymore. And that's boilerplate leftism, that you turn over the country to a small group of self-appointed elites that feel they're morally and intellectually superior. And that's where we are right now. And all of us are in the majority. All of us independents, conservative, old-time Democrats are in the majority. They just control their levers of power. And we have to stand up according to our station and call them out on it all the time. Can't take this lying down. I think that they're very worried. I know that we're pessimistic right now, but they're very, very worried about the dissension and the pushback that's coming against woke, against these prosecutors. And I think it's coming. They're gonna be very surprised when it comes. - Well, yeah, the only way it comes isn't because there's a check and balance and you did things the wrong way and there wasn't evidence to indict. And you drained Rudy Giuliani of all of his money because you didn't like him 'cause he was a Trump supporter. There's none of that. It only happens at the ballot box. And folks, if you wanna know-- - It only happens at the ballot box. - If you wanna know, you don't just vote for your president and your senators or your mayor. Look who you're voting for with these prosecutors 'cause they can do things that you have no idea to control your lives if you're on the wrong side of their anger or opinion. It's nothing to do with evidence. Victor Davis Hanson, thank you so much.

# Analysis

_Machine-generated by trump.fm on 2026-03-20T07:56:57.780Z (UTC): a model's reading of this post, not his words. Its psychological terms describe the language, not a clinical assessment of him._

## Summary

Two days post-Fulton County booking, this RT exemplifies the complete grandiose rebound from acute narcissistic injury. The criminal mugshot — first in presidential history — has been metabolized via reaction formation into the campaign's most potent asset. Staff-executed amplification of a Trump-authored message, timed for business-hours reach rather than spontaneous emotional release. The RT's low intrinsic content belies its psychological significance as the triumphant pole in an oscillating same-day cluster: rage at prosecutors ('THUGS,' 'evil and sinister') alternates with grandiose self-promotion ('ICONIC,' 'your favorite President, me,' record ratings). The $7.1M fundraising surge confirms the defense mechanism is not merely intrapsychic but socially operationalized at scale — followers participate in the inversion by purchasing mugshot merchandise, transforming humiliation into revenue and identity artifact. No new clinical indicators beyond the established baseline pattern of injury-inversion-supply cycling. Archetypal warrior-king martyrdom narrative fully activated. No danger signals in this isolated post, though adjacent dehumanizing language toward named prosecutors sustains an elevated ambient threat environment.

## Post Analysis: RT of "TRUMP'S ICONIC MUGSHOT" — August 26, 2023

### Contextual Framing

This post is a Retruth (RT) of Trump's own prior post (`ts_110954229341489456`), which from context is the **"TRUMP'S ICONIC MUGSHOT" / DonaldJTrump.com** fundraising post. A video attachment (likely a campaign ad built around the mugshot) accompanies the repost. The substantive content therefore resides in the linked post and video rather than in original text — a characteristic of coordinated campaign amplification rather than spontaneous communication.

**Local time conversion:** UTC 14:33 → 10:33 AM ET Saturday. Trump had surrendered at Fulton County Jail on Thursday August 24 and was almost certainly back at Bedminster NJ (his summer residence) by Saturday August 26. 10:33 AM on a Saturday morning is **business hours / daytime**, outside the authentic late-night posting window.

---

### Authorship Attribution

The post structure — a clean RT with no appended commentary, appearing during business hours, amplifying a polished campaign asset — bears all hallmarks of **aide (Scavino) execution**. However, the thematic content (mugshot as trophy) is deeply resonant with Trump's own authentic grandiose voice, visible in the surrounding authentic posts from the same day ("ICONIC," "your favorite President, me," highest ratings ever). The most parsimonious interpretation: **staff-executed amplification** of a campaign message Trump enthusiastically endorsed and helped craft. Confidence: **medium**.

---

### Psychological State and Triggers

The surrounding post cluster is clinically notable. Within approximately two hours on the same day, Trump posted:

1. A Victor Davis Hanson quote deflecting to Stacey Abrams (projection/whataboutism)
2. An aggressive defense of Mar-a-Lago security tapes (denial/distortion)
3. Another Hanson quote ("case is weak")
4. A self-congratulatory ratings boast ("your favorite President, me")
5. **"TRUMP'S ICONIC MUGSHOT"** fundraising link
6. This RT of the mugshot post with video

The cluster reveals a **grandiose narcissistic state** in full activation. The proximate trigger is unambiguous: the Fulton County booking was an acute **narcissistic injury** — public arrest, fingerprinting, mug shot, and inmate number (P01135809) administered to a former president. The ego's response to this humiliation is textbook **reaction formation at industrial scale**: the symbol of criminal processing is immediately rebranded as "ICONIC," monetized into merchandise, and amplified as a badge of martyrdom and heroic resistance.

The $7.1M fundraising surge in the days following confirms this dynamic is not merely psychological — it is strategically exploited. The audience participates in the transformation, purchasing mugshot merchandise and thereby co-authoring the redemption narrative.

---

### Narcissistic Dynamics

**Trigger type:** Narcissistic injury (defeat/exposure — criminal booking, inmate status)
**Response:** Preemptive conversion — rather than absorbing the injury, it is metabolized into grandiose supply. This is a sophisticated, well-practiced maneuver observable throughout Trump's history (e.g., impeachment trials reframed as "witch hunts," business failures reframed as strategic repositioning).

**Narcissistic rage:** Not overtly present in *this specific post*, but the surrounding cluster reveals displaced rage: "evil and sinister prosecutor," "Deranged Jack Smith," "THUGS." This RT functions as the triumphant pole of an oscillation — rage posts and supply posts alternating throughout the day.

**Narcissistic state:** Grandiose. The vulnerable/persecuted mode is active in neighboring posts but here the grandiose mode dominates ("ICONIC," fundraising link).

---

### Defense Mechanisms

- **Reaction formation** (primary): The most humiliating possible event — a criminal mugshot — is inverted into the subject's most celebrated marketing asset. The defense is remarkably complete; no residual acknowledgment of shame is visible.
- **Distortion** (supporting): Reality is reshaped so that arrest = persecution = heroism = triumph. The Fulton County inmate processing is narratively equivalent to a coronation.
- **Rationalization** (present in adjacent posts): "The whole case is FAKE," "I come under the Presidential Records Act" — logical scaffolding erected around the distortion.

---

### Level 3 Narrative Identity

**Protagonist role:** Martyred hero / persecuted king. The mugshot becomes the visual anchor of a persecution-to-triumph arc.
**Narrative sequence:** Contamination → immediate Redemption. The contamination (arrest) is acknowledged just long enough to fuel the redemption (ICONIC, $7.1M raised, campaign merchandise).
**Identity claims:** "Favorite President." "ICONIC." The mugshot-as-identity-artifact claims uniqueness (first presidential mugshot) while converting shame into distinction.
**Contrasting other:** The prosecutorial apparatus — Willis, Smith, "THUGS" — serves as the necessary villain against which the heroic narrative resolves.

---

### Archetypal Dynamics

**Primary archetype:** Warrior-King hybrid. The mugshot is deployed as both martial credential (I have faced the enemy and survived) and royal insignia (the image circulates as an icon, purchased and displayed by followers).
**Shadow projection:** The "sinister," "deranged," "evil" language applied to prosecutors externalizes traits the subject cannot own internally.
**Order/Chaos positioning:** Order-attacker (corrupt prosecutorial system) / Order-restorer (the once and future president who will dismantle the apparatus). The mugshot functions as a recruitment poster for both roles simultaneously.

---

### Cognitive Status

This is a RT with no original language production, limiting cognitive assessment. The adjacent authentic posts show characteristic patterns: superlatives, self-referential third person, compound grievance cataloging. No marked deviation from documented baseline. **Complexity assessment deferred pending original text samples.**

---

### Rhetorical Techniques

The RT itself is mechanically simple, but the amplified content ("ICONIC MUGSHOT" + campaign video + fundraising URL) employs:
- **Symbol inversion** (mugshot as trophy)
- **Martyrdom appeal** (persecution by state apparatus)
- **Parasocial commercial transaction** (buy the mugshot, join the cause)
- **Identity merchandising** (owning the mugshot = owning the ideology)

---

### Danger Assessment

No violence indicators in this specific post. The surrounding cluster contains dehumanizing language for prosecutors ("THUGS," "evil and sinister," "Deranged") which, in cumulative context, contributes to an elevated baseline environment — but this individual post is campaign commercial activity. **Danger level: none** (isolated post); context elevates slightly when viewed with full cluster.

---

### Summary

Two days after the historic Fulton County booking, Trump's communication cluster demonstrates a fully consolidated grandiose response to acute narcissistic injury. The mugshot — objectively a symbol of criminal processing — has been alchemized via reaction formation into the campaign's most potent marketing asset. This RT amplifies that transformation. Authorship is likely staff-executed but ideologically authentic. The psychological pattern (injury → immediate inversion → supply harvesting → rage at persecutors → renewed grandiosity) is stable and consistent with documented baseline dynamics. No new clinical indicators; no danger signals in this post. The cluster as a whole exemplifies the operational fusion of narcissistic defense mechanisms with political fundraising machinery.

## That day

_From trump.fm's machine-generated digest of the day, not his words._

**48 Hours After Historic Mugshot, Trump Oscillates Between "DARK DAYS" Despair and "ICONIC" Defiance — While Jacksonville Burns Unmentioned**

Two days after becoming the first former president to receive a mugshot, Trump spent the day swinging between raw grievance and defiant self-promotion. A burst of late-night posts attacked prosecutors as "thugs" and warned of "DARK DAYS," while daytime campaign blasts rebranded the mugshot as "iconic" and fueled a $7.1 million fundraising haul. He claimed a 67 in a seniors golf championship at Bedminster, preemptively rebutting cheating allegations with a memorable malapropism ("hanky/lanky"). The day closed with aggressive attacks on Fox News and DeSantis. Notably absent from all 20 posts: any mention of the Jacksonville white supremacist shooting that killed three Black people in Florida that same day.
