## What the media says

> Hi everybody, I'm Mark Alford, your voice in Congress and your voice in the 4th Congressional District. It is Monday and we're back in Washington, right outside the Capitol here. You can see that. And today we're finally, finally going to be able to get to work. It is an exciting day where we plan to be voting late into the night tonight. And I'm here to share with you some more details of exactly what we're going to do on our first vote. Our first vote tonight is to pass the most conservative House rules package for the 118th Congress. Let me tell you folks, there are a lot of great things in our rules plan that are going to help us really effectively pass conservative legislation that we've needed for a long time. Before we get into the details and the new rules though, let me quickly explain exactly what those House rules are. What do I mean by House rules? Well, House rules are the governing guidelines set forth and voted on by the entire Congress. They're really the essential playbook that guides Congress on things like how and when we vote. They also give operating procedures and for the last four years, they've been dictated by Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats. Not anymore folks. Now under conservative Republican leadership, our first vote on the House rules package fixes a lot of the broken issues that impact our ability to legislate and serve you at home. The House rules package that we're voting on tonight is the most conservative proposal in decades and it's going to deliver on our commitment to you, our commitment to create a strong economy, a safe nation and a future based on freedom. This rules package will finally, finally restore the people's House ending the use of proxy voting and those remote committee meetings. Elected members, we're supposed to be here to do our jobs, not legislate over Zoom or cast a vote from a beach in California. Well, in our rules, we also have a plan to counter Communist China by establishing a select committee on the strategic competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party. We're finally, finally confronting the dangerous threat posed by the CCP and defending human rights all around the world. We also have a plan to hold the Biden administration accountable, Hunter Biden and Anthony Fauci. We're going to hold them accountable as well for their continuous abuses of power by requiring House committees to establish detailed oversight plans. Lastly and most importantly, we have a plan to build transparency, transparency to have an effective Congress. We are mandating at least 72 hours between the release of Bill's text and the final votes on those bills, giving each and every member ample time to read the legislation before we vote on it. That means bills cannot be written behind closed doors and brought to the House floor without giving us time to read it. You know, it's absurd that that ever happened to begin with. And we're also eliminating Democrats' creation of House staff labor unions so that congressional staff are accountable to the elected officials and the constituents they serve. And we've also reinstated Calendar Wednesdays, which allows committee chairs to bring bills directly to the House floor and create an open amendment process. It's very important. It's all much needed change, and we truly have a lot, a lot to be excited for with our new majority. That's right, Republican majority. So tonight we're going to vote to pass this conservative House rules package. Stay tuned. I'll be back later with more updates. Take care, everyone.
