- I thought I'd bring up a subject of interest. I do a lot of this as president and try and save money. And one was the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which everybody knows. That's where Martin Luther King made his great speech and where others have likewise made great speeches and great events held there. It's very famous. It was built in 1922 and it's more than 2000 feet long. It's 167 feet wide. It's very big. That's like taller than any skyscraper, 2000 feet. And here's a picture of it. You probably recognize it. Right now it's got no water in it because it was in terrible shape. It was filthy dirty. And it leaked like a sieve for many years. So I actually went over, went with Secret Service and a group of people and I took a look at it. One of the people with me was Doug Burgum, our great secretary of the interior. This comes under his purview. And he said, yes, we've had a lot of problems with it. It's not working, it hasn't worked for many years. And it's always filthy dirty. And I said, well, we're gonna solve the problem. And they had bids to fix it. They were going to take the stone out, which was granite, very expensive, very thick, and replace it with stone. And it was gonna cost $300 million. And it was gonna take maybe more than three years. And I said, no, there's a better way of doing it. I said, what we're gonna do is I'm gonna call all three of these people that have worked for me in the past doing swimming pools. That's all they can do is a swimming pool. And I said, give me a good price. We can do it for maybe a million and a half to $2 million as opposed to $300 million. We scrubbed the surface of the existing granite that's been there since 1922. We then grouted all of the granite, fixed it up, took about two weeks. And now we have a nice clean surface on which we're putting a industrial grade swimming pool, topping, and they said, what color would you like, sir? It's called American Flag Blue. I said, that's the color I want. I want American Flag Blue. It'll last for 40 or 50 years. There'll be no leaks. There'll be no anything. It'll look gorgeous, beautiful. So it's a story in business. And here's the difference, 'cause somebody said, well, sure, but one, wouldn't it be a better job? I said, no, no, this is a much better job for much less money. It will look far more beautiful, more beautiful than it did in 1922 when they built it, much more beautiful. So we built it in much less time for much less money, but I don't mean much less. I mean numbers that nobody can even believe. So it's a million and a half dollars versus 300. It's two weeks versus more than three years. That's just the way it is. You went to the fires, the Palisade fires in California, Las Vegas for the shootings during the first term, I know you went to Puerto Rico during the floods in the first time so what is your message to Americans who are suffering right now. >> I feel deep compassion for the people who are impacted by the storm. I know that federal government is working hard to provide assistance to all who need it. And as Americans we need to help each other and come together in these difficult times you have to send them go ahead I send them my strength and love and thinking of them and I know that they would be OK and here we are the government is here helping so I hope the weather will get better soon. >> Well you have decided to pull back the curtain on what's happening in the administration you take us behind the scenes you show us so much apparently in this new movie that's coming out on Friday. My philanthropy family preparation for the inauguration and also establishing the east wing for the White House. How I manage all of that in 20 days prior to the inauguration. Transition from private cities and to being a first lady again. >> What was it like because you had these cameras following you all around every day from the beginning of January all the way through the inauguration. >> It was intense schedule. But that is my life and they were following me and as you know in these situations you could only have a one take so whatever we got it we got it and I had a great team around me and a very talented director that he put together the team, the award-winning team so that was a plus. >> There's the famous hat that you were inauguration day the second term you talk we see some scenes of you designing your inauguration dress. We see the hat and then we also see moments apparently of when you talk to the Biden's you have tea together you drive to the rotunda you're on Air Force one the Biden send off to how are the Biden's to the trumps on that day. >> They were very nice and very beautiful relationship that day so it was a very special day that we are spending together driving to the Capitol and they were very it was very cordial relationship. >> There's another scene where the president is preparing a speech. I'm not sure which speech that was maybe you can you can tell us you jump in and you add different language you say maybe you should say it this way how involved are you in the president's day to day. >> I give you my advice and I tell him what I think sometimes he listens sometimes he doesn't but I am here to support him I think it's very important to have an open communication. >> And that scene when he's at the podium and it looks it's it's at the White House, I assume that's the inauguration speech is that what you were helping him with. >> Yes, yes, it's inauguration speech. >> There's another scene with the Secret Service and you're planning security for the inauguration, this is mind you after 2 assassination attempts on his life. There were death threats at the time on your life too. So are those dangers always a part of your every day of those part of your everyday thoughts. >> You think about it and I have a great Secret Service team and you need to be very vigilant. What do you do where you go. We are leaving in the dangerous times and preparation for inauguration was part of it. >> You show some scenes of a typical marriage a typical dynamic, there's one that that made me laugh at the very end of the trailer where you're calling the president you say hi Mister president congratulations and he says did you watch and you said I did not I will see it on the news. So typical dynamic what why was it important for you to include that scene because you didn't have to do that, but I'm glad you did. >> I was very involved in the in the leading the production and choosing the trailer. I want to show the people that they will see the communications and private communications between me and my husband. So that was part of it. >> And I know that you had a private screening for the movie on Saturday, just very very close friends, family members, a source that was there told me that the college students the teenagers were mystified they were glued to the screen they loved it and what I was curious to to know what did the president say to you after the screening after he saw it for the first time was that the first time you saw it Saturday night. >> It was the first time that he saw home a film and he loved that he said a mask watch. >> And then what about their end of their ends in the film a lot what did he say what was his reaction. >> He is in the film and he liked it too. >> And what about the other children. >> The other children didn't see it yet they will see it soon and but it was wonderful to have so many world leaders with me on Saturday from all different fields and we were celebrating it and the reception of the movie of the film was very warm. >> And what what is your favorite part of the movie when we all go to watch this weekend. >> It's very hard to choose because the audience will experience many different emotions. >> Humor sadness, grief. Many many things and I think everybody will connect on the certain scenes. >> Also the letter to Putin you had I mean that led to 2 unifications returning children from Russian captivity back home to their moms and their dads in Ukraine. We had the success he he wrote back a right away and I'm still working to unified more children behind the process. I hope we will have success soon again and I'm very mission oriented. I want to impact Americans lives and of course I I'm honored to carry on the duties of first lady traditional duties as planning state dinners organizing Easter egg roll and Christmas and all of the events that that go in the White House. So I have a very wonderful team in the East Wing office and they work tirelessly every day. >> And what what is it like being in the White House for the second term compare that to the first term because this is the beginning of moving back into the House you lived in 4 years prior. >> As I said I'm very action oriented and we had the great success, the first year of so many as you just mentioned take a down act legislation. It was bipartisan was a big success. It was written into a law. -As you know, we passed the continuing resolution in the Republican House today. It was an amazing vote, actually. It showed we want to keep things going and going properly. It was good for a lot of reasons. The Republicans want to keep government open. But in the Senate, we have 53 Republicans total, and we need 60 votes. That means we need Democrat votes. I want to thank Senator John Fetterman, who wants to keep the country open. We're doing so well as a country. We're doing probably better than ever before. If you look at the stock market and other indicators, we have tremendous investment coming in, records investment coming in. Everything's going well, but the Democrats are unhappy about that because they don't want it to go well. I think they actually dislike our country greatly. So they want to shut down the country. They want to have open borders. They want to stop the fighting of crime, where we've been very successful. The D.C., as you know -- Washington D.C. is a hot place right now. Everyone's having dinners. They're going out all over. There's very little crime. They haven't seen numbers like this in many, many years and other places. As you know, we're going into Memphis. We'll soon be going into Chicago. We've already had people out there and in there, and FBI has been there. We've brought the numbers down, but we're going to be bringing them down a whole lot. But I guess they want crime, and we fight crime, and it's a pretty big difference. They want to have men playing women's sports. They want transgender for everybody. And if they don't get everything that they want, all these things that they want that are proven so badly, they want to close our government down. We're not going to let bad things happen to our country. We're not going to approve things that we shouldn't be approving. Just today, the House Democrats voted against condemning the political assassination of Charlie Kirk. Who could vote against that, condemning all that, saying, "Please condemn the assassination of a human being"? And they said, "No, then we're not going to do that." Remember this, we had an election very short time ago. Republicans won presidential. We won the popular vote by a lot. We won all seven swing states. We won the Electoral College by a lot. We won most U.S. counties in a total landslide. So we won most -- it's a very big statistic. We won the counties in a number that -- I don't believe this has been hit before -- 2,600 counties versus 525 counties for the Democrats. So the Democrats really should start respecting what takes place at the voter booth in many cases it's not a voter booth because they have mail-in voting, which is a very corrupt situation. But despite that, we won in a landslide. And we have to remember, we win the election. Elections have consequences. So we'll continue to talk to the Democrats, but I think you could very well end up with a closed country for a period of time. And we'll take care of the military. We'll take care of Social Security. We'll take care of the things that we have to take care of. A lot of the things that Democrats fight for, which in many cases aren't very good things, will not be able to be paid. So we'll watch and see how they do with that. They'll have to handle their constituents pretty carefully.
