**Trump posts, without a word, a DOJ letter threatening Los Angeles County officials with prosecution over 20,000 ballots**

Around his Georgia rally on Friday night, Trump posted a Justice Department letter with no comment of his own. It warned Los Angeles County officials they could be prosecuted if they count ballots from more than 20,000 people the department suspects are noncitizens. After midnight he shared a supporter's list of what he has done for Black Americans and added "Best in History!" On Saturday's flight to a Kentucky rally he said the TV coverage of his waiting crowd was so good he didn't want to get off the plane, then put out five endorsements in ten minutes. The hastily assembled batch called Lindsey Graham "Darline" and Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed "Mohammed," and videos attached to two of them went further than the text: one claimed an Iowa Democrat who is a Lutheran pastor doesn't believe in God, and another hinted at an unnamed scandal involving a Texas Democrat.

## Rally night to rally day, all on Eastern time

The thirteen posts dated October 17 (UTC) run from 8:27 PM EDT on Friday, October 16, to 2:16 PM EDT on Saturday, in three sittings. The first sitting was four posts in ten minutes (8:27 to 8:37 PM), around his Georgia rally. The second was a pair at 12:10 and 12:11 AM. After that the feed stopped for twelve hours and twenty minutes. It resumed at 12:31 PM with "Heading to Kentucky! Will be landing soon," and the last seven posts arrived between 12:31 and 2:16 PM, most of them from Air Force One. Georgia and most of Kentucky keep Eastern time, so EDT is the right clock for the whole window.

The midnight posts are late, but they follow a rally, and the gap after them leaves room for a full night's sleep. Thirteen posts is a middling count for his recent feed. The bursts line up with events (a rally, a flight) and don't spread through the small hours. The timeline makes no case for sleep loss or a hypomanic stretch.

## A prosecution warning, posted without a word

ts_117453413930971351 is a two-page Justice Department letter dated October 16. It is from the Acting Deputy Attorney General to an Assistant County Counsel in the Los Angeles County Counsel's Office, and it answers the county's letter of October 15. It tells the county that its registrar must not count ballots from more than 20,000 people the department calls "likely noncitizens," and that officials who do risk prosecution as aiders and abettors of a federal crime. He added no text.

The weight is in the act of publishing. A warning of criminal liability, addressed to one named county lawyer, moved from correspondence between governments to his whole audience, carrying the president's endorsement through the act of posting, about eighteen days before the midterm. Inside the letter, the people on the list slide from "likely noncitizens" to "identified ... as noncitizens," and the prosecution theory needs the second phrasing. Lists built this way have a poor record. Texas's 2019 list swept in many naturalized citizens and was withdrawn. The post extends his long-running claim about noncitizen voting, now on DOJ letterhead, and it marks a block of California ballots as criminal before any of them is counted.

The elevated danger reading rests on that pairing: a named election-side official and a criminal charge, published ahead of an election. After 2020, the same pairing came before the harassment of Georgia election workers. The letter itself uses no violent or dehumanizing language, and the post asks readers to do nothing.

Three more posts followed within ten minutes: a self-repost with an image at 8:28 PM (ts_117453415283228242), a video with no caption at 8:36 PM (ts_117453447477979909), and a second image self-repost at 8:37 PM (ts_117453450275734603). None has a transcript or description on record, so they count as activity only. Whether they stayed on the ballot letter or turned to the rally is unknown.

## Midnight: a tribute and a superlative

At 12:10 AM he posted a screenshot of an X post by a verified account, "A Gene Robinson" (ts_117454291461915390). It argues that people who dislike him cannot erase what he has done for Black Americans, then lists items: the 2018 First Step Act, the 2019 FUTURE Act funding for HBCUs, the 2020 HBCU PARTNERS Act, and low Black unemployment. A minute later came "Best in History!" (ts_117454292438977074). He reposted a stranger's tribute and capped it with a two-word superlative of his own, which is supply-seeking at its simplest. The tribute is framed against unnamed critics, but neither post names anyone, and after a rally night the tone is self-congratulation. The list rests mostly on real legislation.

## On Air Force One, watching the crowd

The 12:31 PM post (ts_117457204970246458) has the day's most revealing lines: "I'm watching it now on RSBN. The coverage is spectacular. In fact, it's so good, that I don't want to leave Air Force One." He is watching a live stream of the crowd waiting for him, and he reports that the coverage of his arrival is good enough to put off the arrival. The candidate comes last: "Vote for Andy Barr for U.S. Senate!" The self-regard here is cheerful and has no target.

The day's last post, at 2:16 PM (ts_117457616533730418), is a bare YouTube livestream link. Its timing fits the Kentucky event, but the link alone doesn't say what it shows.

## Five endorsements in ten minutes, three bent names

Between 12:58 and 1:08 PM, while he was still in transit by the morning's own account, five endorsements went out: Russell Fry (South Carolina's 7th District), "Darline Graham" (South Carolina Senate), Mike Rogers (Michigan Senate), Zach Nunn (Iowa's 3rd District) and Ken Paxton (Texas Senate). Each closes on the same frame: "has my Complete and Total Endorsement ... HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" The Fry and Graham entries are that frame and nothing else, which is why both get low authorship readings.

The Graham entry gets its subject wrong twice: "Darline Graham" and "SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" The South Carolina senator on the 2026 ballot is Lindsey Graham. The name and the pronoun agree with each other but not with the man. That suggests someone filled in the template and published it without checking whom it named.

Two entries carry a hand-added opening line, and most of the batch's personal voice is in those lines. "Mohammed El-Sayed is a terrible Candidate for the Dumocrats" (ts_117457346173487081) gets the Michigan Democratic nominee's first name wrong. His name is Abdul El-Sayed. The post analysis weighs two readings. "Mohammed" is the most prototypically Muslim given name, and the swap fits his history of using names to mark people as foreign. On the other side, the Graham slip nine minutes earlier shows names going wrong across the batch for no visible purpose. This post can't settle it. A repeat of the "Mohammed" form would. "James TalaFREAKO is a Radical Left Lunatic and Vegan who is the ANTITHESIS of Texas Values" (ts_117457348466973534) is deliberate: his own nickname, built from rally material. Against each opponent he sets an unexplained superlative for his own candidate, "Great American Patriot" for Rogers and "the Greatest Attorney General in the History of Texas" for Paxton. One side is all bad, the other all good, and neither side gets any policy.

That makes three names distorted in ten minutes: one on purpose, one by mistake, one undecided. This is the day's clearest cognitive signal, and it is thin. The midday writing is mostly template, and the evening post contains none of his own words.

## The videos say what the templates don't

The Nunn and Paxton entries carry pre-recorded video of him speaking to camera. In both clips, the spoken material turns from the candidate to himself, and from the opponent's record to the opponent's private life.

In the Nunn clip (ts_117457347557850043) he says, "I think Iowa probably loves me too. You should because I've done a good job for you," then adds the unattributed "It's said that there's no president ever that's even come close." He builds a religious case against the Democratic nominee, Sarah Trone Garriott, who is an ordained Lutheran pastor. He says she is "not a believer in God," ties her to a "wedding for two Satanists," and says she voted for "the mutilation of your children." The denial of her faith contradicts the public record. His policy claims overstate the One Big Beautiful Bill Act: the estate tax was not ended, and the tips, overtime and senior provisions are capped, temporary deductions. This is the day's second elevated post, because it casts a named candidate as a danger to children and to faith. The only action the clip asks for is a vote.

The Paxton clip states the exchange of love for votes outright: "I love you. And you might love me." Paxton's main credential is loyalty ("fought with us right alongside of me... the rigged elections"), and the praise is hedged out loud: "some people like Ken, some people don't." That hedge sits under a caption calling Paxton "the Greatest Attorney General in the History of Texas," which is the day's one internal contradiction. On Talarico's documented absence with the flu, he insinuates: "He's lying about that. He was in some very bad situation... Be great if it was before the election." The charge has no stated content and points to a future reveal that his audience can't check. It echoes debunked rumors about mental-health treatment, which the written "Lunatic" reinforces, and it voices open hope that a rival will be humiliated before the vote. The vegan claim is false and grew out of 2022 remarks about eating less meat. "Zero people in 17 months" inflates a statistic about releases into a claim of no crossings at all. Asides such as "I haven't been doing this too long, actually" are typical of his improvised speech and show no change from it. The day's single anger reading belongs to this post, and the text carries derision ("TalaFREAKO," "Lunatic") more than heat.

## Where the day's risk sits

The two elevated posts are sixteen hours apart and share a shape: a named person on the other side of an election, a criminal or moral charge, and no instruction beyond the ballot. The first comes on DOJ letterhead and names a lawyer for the county whose count is in dispute. The second comes in his own voice and names a candidate. Intensity peaked in the Paxton video and stayed roughly level across the midday batch, so the day never built toward anything. On this evidence, two such posts without a call to act don't add up to a pattern of incitement. The Los Angeles letter is the one with a documented precedent for what followers do with an election official's name.

Neither event in the historian's database (the steel and aluminum tariff changes, the America 250 launch) appears in the day's posts. The triggers were the DOJ's dispute with Los Angeles County and his own rally schedule.

## The shape of the day

Rally, tribute, rally. The state stayed grandiose throughout and nothing reversed it. What kept it there was self-directed superlatives ("Best in History!", "spectacular," "Iowa probably loves me too") more than grievance. The sharpest material came through a government document and two recordings, and his own written lines were mostly template.

### Narrative

A campaign day in three sittings around two rallies. On Friday night he put a federal threat against Los Angeles ballot counters on his feed. At midnight he turned to praise of himself. Saturday's flight to Kentucky became a run of form-letter endorsements, where mangled names and two attached videos carried the personal edge. Nothing built up or broke down over the day, and the hardest material came through a government letter and recorded clips more than through his own written words.

### Dominant themes

- Templated midterm endorsements (1 post)
- Self-praise and audience love (1 post)
- Opponents' names, faith and private lives (1 post)
- Rally coverage and livestreams (1 post)
- Noncitizen voting and criminalized ballot counting (1 post)

### Contradictions that day

- [ts_117457348466973534](https://trump.fm/post/ts_117457348466973534): Written caption: "Ken Paxton is the Greatest Attorney General in the History of Texas"
vs. [ts_117457348466973534](https://trump.fm/post/ts_117457348466973534): Attached video: "some people like Ken, some people don't"

### Cognitive concerns

- Wrong first name for the Michigan Democratic nominee: "Mohammed El-Sayed" for Abdul El-Sayed (deliberate or a slip, unresolved)
- Ally misnamed with a matching wrong pronoun: "Darline Graham ... SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" for Lindsey Graham
- Spoken praise hedged against its own caption: "some people like Ken, some people don't" under "Greatest Attorney General in the History of Texas"
- Self-contradicting digressive aside in the Paxton video: "I haven't been doing this too long, actually"
- Little original composition: midday posts are mostly a repeated staff template, and the evening's key post has no words of his own

> Well, Texas, I just want to thank you for voting me not only in, but giving me the biggest vote in the history of Texas for any politician, whether it's presidency or Senate or anything else. And I did it three times. So for three times, I have the biggest vote in the history of Texas. That means you like me and I like you. Maybe love is a better word. I love you. And you might love me. And that's why we can't allow James Telefrico to get into office and represent you because it's an embarrassment to one of the great states, maybe our greatest state. It's an embarrassment to have a guy like that representing you in Washington, D.C. It's an embarrassment to have the world watch. He's a man who said things that are so bad, we can't let him get in. He insulted God. He insulted men, women. He said things that he believes. And the one thing I learned in politics, I learned it a long time ago. It's very interesting. I haven't been doing this too long, actually, certainly not to be president, but I've gotten a lot of experience. One thing I've learned and strongly is that whatever your first statement, that's always the one you go back to. So he said all these horrible things and that's w… (full transcript: https://trump.fm/post/ts_117457348466973534)

> Hello, Iowa. I'm asking you to get out and vote to reelect Congressman Zach Nunn to the U.S. House of Representatives. I know him well. He's a warrior. I've worked with him and especially for our great Iowa farmers. He works harder than anybody else there is. Zach is a driving force fighting for E15 all year round and he was a pivotal vote for the great big beautiful bill that as you know should be called the great big beautiful tax cut bill saving millions and millions of family farms and unfair estate taxes that were being charged. We ended it. You now have no tax upon your death. You could leave it to your children, that beautiful farm. Bad things happened in the old system and by the way the Democrats want to terminate the estate tax gift that we're giving you. They want you to pay estate tax. Explain that to me because I don't get it. He gave you the largest tax cuts in American history did Zach, including no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security for our great seniors. Zach Dunn is also an incredible patriot who has served our country in uniform and in combat in the U.S. Air Force. > So the great state of Michigan, which I won decisively in the last election, is looking seriously, I guess, at a man named Mohammed Abdul Al Sayyad, who is absolutely Muslim Brotherhood. The last thing we need is Muslim Brotherhood in the United States Senate. It doesn't represent the values of Michigan, and it doesn't represent the values of the United States of America. You have a man named Mike Rogers. He's 100 percent. He has my complete and total endorsement. He'll be a great senator. You cannot even think about putting Mohammed Al Sayyad in that position. He's a disaster, and he hates our country. Thank you, Michigan. I love you, and thank you for voting me through. You gave me such a great early lift because the polls right from the beginning were great for me, and I appreciate it. And then we went on to a big win. So thank you very much. Do not allow Mohammed Al Sayyad to take a position in the United States Senate. It would be the beginning of the end for our country. Thank you.

> A very special hello to South Carolina, a place I love. I won three times, three out of three, and got the highest vote in the history of your state by just high numbers, record numbers. It's been incredible. The relationship I've had to your state has been unbelievable, and the relationship I have to you, and I appreciate it, very important. I'm asking everyone in South Carolina to get out and vote for a wonderful person, a great woman, I believe, a woman that Lindsey Graham said is the greatest person he's ever met, respected her more than any other person he's ever met, which always bothered me, 'cause I said, "Well, what about me?" I thought I was there. No, I think it was the sister, Darlene. He loved his sister, he respected his sister, and he was a great guy. So I'm here to ask you to get out and vote for Darlene Graham for the United States Senate. She's really got what it takes. She's an amazing person. I've gotten to know her very well. Darlene has devoted her entire life to the people of South Carolina, and after her brother, the late, great Lindsey Graham, and he was indeed, he was a great politician, actually, passed away unexpectedly. I asked Darlene to run. She's alr… (full transcript: https://trump.fm/post/ts_117457310952881760)

Russell is an American first patriot and a champion of election integrity who is doing an incredible job representing the great people of South Carolina's 7th congressional district, which I won overwhelmingly, thank you. Russell was a pivotal vote for the largest tax cuts in American history, including no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security for our great seniors. > Screenshot of an X (Twitter) post by a verified account named "A Gene Robinson" (@AlBuffalo2nite), with a small profile photo of a man in dark clothing. The long text post argues that people who dislike Donald Trump cannot erase what he has done for Black Americans, then lists items: the 2018 First Step Act, the 2019 FUTURE Act funding for HBCUs, the 2020 HBCU PARTNERS Act, low Black unemployment and Black poverty at 16.3% in 2019, Opportunity Zones, an April 2025 White House HBCU initiative, and $1.3 billion in Department of Education HBCU support in fiscal year 2025. It ends with a gray teaser line that the hypocrisy becomes disquieting, so the post is cut off there. Two red stop-sign emoji frame the all-caps sentence.

Text in the image: "A Gene Robinson @AlBuffalo2nite You can dislike Donald Trump. You can despise his personality, reject his politics, and criticize every word that comes out of his mouth. That is your prerogative. 🛑BUT YOU CANNOT ERASE WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR BLACK AMERICANS SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU HATE THE MAN!🛑 Let's examine the historical record instead of recycling partisan talking points. In 2018, Donald Trump signed the bipartisan First Step Act, reforming federal sentencing laws, reducing certain mandatory penalties, and expanding opportunities for incarcerated individuals to earn earlier release. These reforms addressed sentencing disparities that disproportionately affected Black Americans. In 2019, Trump signed the FUTURE Act, securing $255 million in permanent annual federal funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other minority-serving institutions. In 2020, he signed the HBCU PARTNERS Act, strengthening federal support and coordination for historically Black colleges. During his first administration, Black unemployment reached historically low levels before the pandemic. Black poverty fell to 16.3% in 2019, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. These improvements were part of longer economic trends, but they occurred during his presidency. Trump also signed legislation establishing Opportunity Zones, encouraging private investment in economically distressed communities. The extent to which those investments benefited existing residents remains a legitimate subject of debate. In April 2025, Trump established a new White House initiative supporting HBCU research, innovation, infrastructure, and workforce development. His administration also reported more than $1.3 billion in Department of Education support for HBCUs during fiscal year 2025. NOW HERE IS WHERE THE HYPOCRISY BECOMES PARTICULARLY DISQUIETING!"

It objects to people who acknowledge these being called "MAGGOTS", and argues that the critic's contempt and "selective indignation" call their own racial prejudices into question. When he signs legislation securing permanent funding for Black colleges, you call him a racist. When Black unemployment reaches historic lows during his administration, you refuse to acknowledge the numbers. When he supports historically Black educational institutions, you dismiss the accomplishments because you despise the man responsible. And then you turn around and call the people who acknowledge these documented accomplishments “MAGGOTS”? LET ME MAKE SOMETHING PERFECTLY CLEAR! If recognizing criminal justice reform, educational investment, and measurable improvements in Black economic conditions makes somebody a “MAGGOT” in your eyes, then perhaps the problem is not the person examining the evidence. Perhaps the problem is your own selective indignation. And if your contempt for Donald Trump is so consuming that you cannot acknowledge a single policy benefiting Black Americans, then your claim to care about Black advancement deserves serious scrutiny. Because if these accomplishments are what you call “MAGGOT,” while dismissing the Black Americans who benefited from them, THEN YOUR OWN RACIAL PREJUDICES DESERVE EXAMINATION! Your political animosity does not invalidate federal legislation. Your insults do not overturn Census Bureau statistics. Your hatred does not erase appropriations to historically Black institutions. And your partisan allegiance does not give you exclusive authority to decide what constitutes progress for Black Americans."

The image is a photo-style picture labeled "Made with AI" showing two men posing close together in front of a US flag and a dark flag. On the left is a bald Black man with a graying goatee, round light-blue glasses, a gold chain and a gray knit polo shirt, pointing at the man beside him with a skeptical expression. On the right is an older white man with blond-orange swept hair, smiling broadly, wearing a navy suit, white shirt, red tie and a small US flag lapel pin, giving a thumbs up. The text asserts that Black Americans are not property of the Democratic Party and asks critics to bring documentation rather than insults. No names are visible in the screenshot.

Text in the image: "I am interested in outcomes, not political worship. I will examine Trump’s failures just as readily as his accomplishments, and I expect that same intellectual honesty from anyone criticizing him. BLACK AMERICANS ARE NOT PROPERTY OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY! We are capable of evaluating policies, examining evidence, and making independent judgments without asking political operatives for permission. If you want to challenge the record, bring documentation. If all you have are insults, you have brought nothing to the discussion. #AStoneGroove #SilentMajoritySpeaks Made with AI 12:25 PM · Oct 16, 2026 · 38.4K Views"

> A two-page U.S. Department of Justice letter stacked vertically (screenshot/scan), dated October 16, 2026, from the Acting Deputy Attorney General to an Assistant County Counsel at the Los Angeles County Counsel's Office. It responds to the county's October 15 letter. It asserts that the county's registrar must not count ballots from more than 20,000 people the DOJ says are likely noncitizens, that doing so risks aiding and abetting a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. § 611 and § 2, and that the NVRA 90-day quiet period doesn't apply. It urges the county and California Secretary of State to reconsider. It has the DOJ seal at top left, a handwritten signature at the bottom, and a slightly garbled spot where "NVRA's" appears as "NV 's" on page two.

Text in the image: "U.S. Department of Justice 950 Pennsylvania Ave, NW Washington, DC 20530 (202) 514-2000 October 16, 2026 Peter M. Bollinger Assistant County Counsel Los Angeles County Counsel's Office Re: Response to October 15, 2026 Letter Mr. Bollinger: The Department of Justice has reviewed your October 15 letter responding to the federal investigative materials provided to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk ("County ROV"). I write to address several legally untenable assertions and to make unmistakably clear the legal implications for violating 18 U.S.C. § 611. Your letter asserts that the County ROV is "legally prohibited" from taking even minimal steps—such as temporarily segregating ballots—after receiving credible federal evidence identifying tens of thousands of individuals suspected to be noncitizens. That position is incorrect as a matter of federal law and places officials in both the California Secretary of State ("SOS") and County ROV offices at risk of knowingly facilitating violations of federal criminal statutes. On October 13, the Department hand delivered a password-protected dataset identifying more than 20,000 individuals who federal agencies reasonably believe are likely noncitizens registered to vote in California. This list was developed through a multilayered, multiagency investigative methodology that relied upon internal immigration records, data matching, supervisory verification procedures, and more. The legal consequences for either facilitating or ignoring a federal crime are significant. Noncitizen voting in a federal election is a federal crime—and knowingly facilitating such conduct is equally unlawful. Under 18 U.S.C. § 611(a), noncitizens are prohibited from voting in any election involving federal offices. Under 18 U.S.C. § 2, anyone who aids, abets, counsels, induces, or procures the commission of a federal offense is equally liable. If persons knowingly tabulate ballots cast by individuals identified by federal agencies as noncitizens, they risk becoming aiders and abettors to a federal crime. Your assertion that ballots must be counted simply because California's registration system relies on self-attestation does not relieve election officials of their obligations under federal law when they are on actual notice of noncitizen voting. Nor can state procedures supersede federal criminal statutes. Your argument that the County is "not authorized" to pause or segregate ballots because California relies on attestation-based registration is immaterial. Section 611 does not excuse unlawful voting simply because a State employs a permissive registration method. The Department has not asked the County to adjudicate immigration status; it has asked the County to temporarily set aside ballots from individuals whose eligibility is credibly in question—a standard election-administration practice implemented nationwide. Likewise, your reliance on the National Voter Registration Act's ("NVRA's") "quiet period" is misplaced. The NV 's 90-day limitation applies only to systematic list-maintenance programs—not to targeted, individualized evidence of unlawful voting identified by federal law enforcement. The Department has not requested a purge, cancellation of registrations, or any programmatic action. We requested only temporary ballot segregation pending citizenship verification. Invoking the NVRA to justify counting ballots unlawfully cast is both legally incorrect and operationally irresponsible. Additionally, the administrative burdens, timing constraints, or the fact that the investigative list includes individuals residing outside Los Angeles County do not permit the County to knowingly tabulate ballots that federal law prohibits. Once the United States provides credible evidence that certain ballots may be unlawful to count, election officials may not disregard that information because it is inconvenient to process. Administrative difficulty is not a defense to violating federal law or aiding or abetting a federal offense. The Department strongly urges the County and the SOS to reconsider their positions before taking actions that risk significant federal scrutiny and legal exposure. Sincerely, /s/ Trent McCotter Acting Deputy Attorney General United States Department of Justice"
